2008 Mazda5 5MT Sport w/ Popular Package
Here you go, same as the 2009 Canadian Mazda5 specs posted earlier, just subtle changes for 09

MAZDA5

The MAZDA5 is a three-row, six-passenger multi-activity vehicle infused with sports car inspiration that efficiently transports people and equipment like a large SUV.

5 demonstrates Mazda's infusion of stylish, insightful and spirited vehicles. Last year MAZDA5 was revamped with a freshened exterior design, five-speed automatic transmission, rear cool air vents, improved gas mileage, arm rests, standard auxiliary audio input jack, and new interior and exterior colors. The 2009 MAZDA5 continues to offer customers excellent value and fuel economy and an abundance of standard features in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring versions.

The MAZDA5 is powered by an all-aluminum 2.3-liter, four-cylinder MZR series engine, producing 153 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, shared with the popular MAZDA3. A flowing wedge-shaped body with solid proportions defines the exterior of the MAZDA5 as unmistakably Mazda, while inside the cabin, the MAZDA5 offers a flexible seating arrangement. The MAZDA5's large sliding doors and low floor allow for fluid ingress and egress, and a one-touch walk-in mechanism offers easy access to the third-row seats.

Highlights of the 2009 MAZDA5 include:

  • Standard 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Great fuel mileage – 22/28 (5-speed manual) and 21/27 (5-speed automatic) city/highway
  • Standard auxiliary audio input jack
  • LED taillights (Touring and Grand Touring)
  • Sirius satellite radio-compatible audio system
  • Electroluminescent gauges
  • Dual-sliding rear doors for easy ingress and egress to the 2nd and 3rd rows
  • Advanced dual front air bags, front seat side air bags and three-row side curtain air bags

New or enhanced for 2009:

  • New Liquid Silver exterior color to replace Sunlight Silver (late availability)
  • Sand interior color now available with Stormy Blue and Brilliant Black exterior colors

doesnt really sound like it has anything different from our 08 GT, other than the new colors. the only thing different from the 08's (i think) is the aux jack. i think for 08 the aux jack only came on the GT trim.

The Aux Jack came in all models on the 2008 (spin)

We are almost ready to buy... trying to get our current Volvo to last just a few more months.

My wife was keen on the "Cherry Black" that is being offered in Canada. I'm disappointed that we won't see that color here in the States. Happy to see teh Sand interior in more of color's though. I've got black in my Mazda3, and it just gets SO hot...

Uk M5

After my 94 Civic Si was stolen, stripped and burned in April, I started a search for a MP5 and my search vehicle was a rented Mazda5. I loved everything about it for two weeks and it sticks in my mind once the family expands beyond K-9 additions.

I was at the London auto show Monday and scooted over to the Mazda stand to rest after salivating over the new Focus RS. In the UK, the 2009 M5 has electric sliding rear doors which is new this year. Catch is, you can open them with the key fob but you must close them manually or with a button by the steering wheel. Makes no sense but that's the way they roll.

The clever middle row third seat is always a delight and I wonder if I could simply replace one of the captain seats with a euro seat to make a bench seat back there. The dog isn't much of a fan for captain chairs but maybe future kids will be.

For all that they have in the UK model, they don't have a sunroof option and that's a deal breaker for me. The auto show specialist said they got rid of the roof option because most people don't like the city air. That almost makes sense were it not for the fact convertibles sell more in the UK than any other European country!

So the manual transmission is only available on the Sport model for '09?

And I love how all of the car dealers quote gas mileage for vehicles with manual transmission but it's very hard to actually find one.

That is what they said for the 08s as well (I kind of fell into the trick, as I bought mine in December 07 so I went for the 1st Sport with Manual I found), but there are actually some 08 Tourings with MT around. Canada has them both: GS and GT.

And yes, they are difficult to find, I agree. My dealer claims that my 08 is the first and last MT they've sold lately (and that was last December! (boom01))

I put on a survey once (I got the first one sold in Kentucky ever) that they sorely need a rear air option. We traded the 5 out for an Explorer with a 3rd row seat and rear air. The mileage of course was terrible (we never got near what the 5 was supposed to anyway) as was the handling but, the rear air, room and power were nice. I think the 5 could be greatly improved with the 2.3 DISI and rear air!

our 08 has a rear vent fan, very much improves the rear circulation. that plus the auto climate control, and the 5 is very comfortable.

Mazda must have listened then! We had an 06 Sport with black/charcoal interior (they only came that way IIRC) and even with tinted windows it got awfully hot in a child seat.

I need to check the newer ones out.

dddd

OH man, I got ripped off then. My 08 GT doesn't have 6 disc changer.
(sad1)(sad1)

US:
2006-2009 Sport with Pop Package, Touring and Grand Touring have 6CD player included. Regular Sport is optional.

Canada:
2006-2008 GS and GT, 6CD player was optional IIRC

So I guess in summary:
US Sport <> Canadian GS
US Grand Touring <> Canadian GT

my 08 GT came with the 6 disc standard

Mazda canada is not too smart sometime.. they make a lot of mistake in production.. i've seen a mazda3 BASE model with 6 disc cd changer.. i've also seen a 08.5 Mazda3 GT base with chrome door handle.. they always make all sorts of mistake like that.. u just got lucky... hahaha

On the other hand you can get in Canada leather package and navigation on a GT WITH manual transmission (cryhard)
