2007 speed6 smoking?

My car is at the dealer for the smoke issue. I have an Jan/06 build date w/both cats still in place. Only exhaust mod is a catback. I have the Forge BPV and stock air box without the resonator and I left those mods. alone
hoping to fly under the radar.

My service advisor said the smoking is a "known" issue which leads me to believe they have seen this problem at their dealership before.

The senior tech came out to look at the amount of smoke as the car idled in the service lane and said it's defiantely engine oil and in a routine manner said he'll perform a compression test and a leak down test.

My bet is it's the turbo seals as disscussed here.

How long has your dp been on the car?

I installed the DP this past weekend and I just noticed some smoke yesterday for the first time ... also, I put the main cat back on last night 'cause it SMELLS with no cats - will see if that helps with the smell. My guess is it will once the cat is warmed up but not before as that was the pre-cats job (ie. cleaning up the air on startup).

Not sure if the main cat will help with the smoke yet.

I've heard from my dealer today as to why my car smoked so bad. To no surprise to me, it's the turbo. Seals are leaking and I'm covered under warranty. I'm wondering how long the next will last????

hopefully it will last for a really long time..but if it doesn't, $1500 isn't so bad for an upgrade :).

oh this thread was jacked? i suppose that story about racing a mustang up the canyon and running my motor real hard had nothing to do with my car smoking while engine braking in fourth on my way back down hmm i must have been mistaken i thought thats what this thread was about.

Good one lol... please....can I convince you to talk to my Chief Financial Officer (a.k.a wife)? She's really good at listening to reason.

dealership has had my car now for five days...
theyve dismisssed the turbos.. no leak.. they are in troubleshoot mode still

If the turbo is good than more then likely its your engine and they will start with the leak down and compression tests. Sounds like you may be in the small group of us that have actually had our whole engines replaced.

men you have no idea how much smoke i used to have! the only way to solve this is the turbo upgrade is soooo sweeet!

Update: Day #4-Turbo NOT leaking as suspected.
So far my dealer says they checked:
Compression: Passed
Leak down test: Passed
Plugs: Good condition
Turbo: Good- no leaks

Next check is the PVC valve under the intake manifold for oil accumilation.

**Edit** Mechanic found oil in intake manifold. Possible source of oil leak is either the valve guide in one of the cylinders or the entire engine head. Sounds like a major deal??

They found carbon buildup on my pressure contol valve as well, said it was making it stick. They tried to blame it on lower grade fuel but my car has never had anything less than 93 in it. Anyhow the outcome ended up being cylinders 2 & 4 leaking oil resulting in a new engine. After everything it ended up being over 12 grand in repairs according to the dealership. Sounds like you're headed down the same path, luckily it doesnt take them long to get the engine in. Probably took less than a week once they decided to order it and get it installed.

My dealer and Mazda are butting heads. Techline swears my smoking issue is the turbo seals but my dealer says they found the leak source at the valve guide. Dealer was told to remove and replace the turbo under warranty. We'll see what happens when the turbo's replaced.

I have an 07 speed3, stock other than a MS CAI. It smokes. I know it's not a speed6, but the engine is the same, and as far as I know, the turbo is also.

I just got my car back with the new turbo and NO smoke! I had my wife drive behind me as we drove home and she verified under accelaration and at stops that no smoke was evident.

Previous to the turbo replacement, I always noticed that my boost gauge was showing me that the old turbo would spike around 15 PSI and dropped down to about 11-12 PSI. Now, no spikes.

My service advisor stated that Mazda has updated the turbo seals and my VIN fell within the suspected ranged of cars with the "old" version, hence the replacement of the turbo.

This was contrary to what the head tech. at the dealership had suspected the problem was a leaky valve guide.

Glad to hear your smoking issue is solved.
Any chance you can squeeze the suspected vin range out of your dealer?

The shop foreman was e-mailing Mazda Techline as to my issue with the smoke and as the days dragged on I asked what the hold up was and my answer was Quote:"Waiting on VIN approval..."

I asked my service advisor what that meant and he said that there is a "known" range of VIN's that Mazda is tracking and since mine fell in that range, Techline would not accept any other dealer diagnosis beyond the turbo replacement.

I really doubt my service advisor will devulge this info. beyond their obligation to fix my problem.

went through the same late8...
dealer tech dismisssed the turbos but mazda tech insisted turbo replacement..
although mine still spikes to 18psi then settles to 14-15psi...
also noticed that my mechanical boost gauge now flutters less than before..
have also installed a new catback prior to noticing the flutter so it might be a combo...

sounds like my car, gauge flutters, and boosts around 14-15 and spikes 18-19-ish...stock cept intake homemade. I also plan to go full downpipe, no muffler, no cats, just a straight pipe on back...we'll see if it smokes...I have no problems at all now for smoke, my car is also very new...2007 bought in july
