"Beginning in the summer of 2006, Mazda completely renewed and expanded the Mazda3 line up. It began with the introduction of a major facelift and, at the end of 2006, with the launch of the high-performance sports compact fl agship, Mazda3 MPS. And the good news now continues with another major addition to the Mazda3 lineup, the 143 PS, MZR-CD 2.0 common-rail turbo diesel engine in both sedan and hatchback models..."

Is there ANY chance that a diesel version of the 3 woud come to the US?

The fuel-conscious nerd in me is excited by the prospect.

I've given up on most maker bringing new diesels to the US market. I am going to wait for the Jetta Wagon Diesel to arrive in Spring 08 and wave goodbye to Mazda, Honda, GM, Ford and the rest with great diesels engines in the EU market that they never bring to the US. All those people thinking diesels are slow, noisy and smelly should realize it is not 1986.

They will soon start coming to the US, but i doubt mazda will take part in that.

The new BlueTec cars should be good to see....and that will cause other manufacturers to start bring them to the US. Most likely Mitsu is going to make the diesel engine here in the US.
