Hi all -
I have a 2002 P5 with a 5 speed that runs well and has been serviced regularly. I am the original owner. One issue that cropped up recently at a series of stoplights is an idle dip with a quick return to normal idle. It did it consistently, so I did some research on this and other places on the internet and determined it could be the EGR valve. One thing that did change recently is a lot more short trips, which I understand can lead to carbon build up, so I decided to take it on a drive on some backroads for some gentle hustling (never much more than upper 4k's RPM) and more consistent freeway driving. This really improved the situation, the idle stopped dipping with the one exception last week where I let it idle for several minutes and it was rock solid but with just one dip. I drove it again a couple times with normal stoplight idle time and all was well.
Does this seem like it's in fact an EGR issue that proper use of the car is making better? If I'm missing another cause or issue, I just want to get ahead of it in case it happens again.
Thanks!
