Hello, I have searched but none of the posts I need have had responses since 2020, so apologies if I am repetitive.
Today I found out my 2001 Protege LX (less than 70,000 miles) with 1 previous owner (grandma) needs a new engine among other things.
I am tempted to replace the engine and go ahead and fix several idiosyncrasies that I know needed repair for some time to bring her up to "perfection" but am wondering if I am nuts to consider it?
Over time I have repaired replaced the major things that are common to a car this age including the transmission.
I have test drove some "new" old cars but the costs of these cars is 3 times what I expect to spend, with 3 times the mileage, and no warranty.
The gas mileage on this car is incredible & other repairs have been reasonable. I like that there are no computer chips, etc in the car.
I know the entire repair history & mechanics for the car since "birth".
Thoughts?
