2.5T Cracked Cylinder Head/Leaking Coolant Report to the NHTSA

Good news all, checkout what came down from Mazda!

This is huge! Good on Mazda for finally taking care of these customers and owners. I'll update the first post with that pic, @Tchman2016.

Can I ask where you found this letter? Or the pic of this letter?

Huge indeed. I saw this posted on the Facebook forum group " mazda cx-9 club" to which i'm a member of. Many people have already confirmed it with their dealers. I would love to see if they are treating this as a preventative "come in and we'll fix it even if you dont have a leak right now" or they require it to be physically leaking to fix. One person memtioned they made an appointment with their dealer who said come on down to fix even though they weren't having a leak yet.

I am a plaintiff on the Sauder/Schelkopf and that case is still proceeding. They would not be taking any additional plaintiffs at this time, so that is probably why the online form is not active and why you are not hearing from them. I don't know that for sure, but that would be my guess. Our experience was that our Mazda dealer (Ourisman in Rockville, MD) went to bat for us with Mazda corporate to get them to cover a portion of the repair. They paid roughly half of it. It is my opinion that Mazda should be paying the ENTIRE repair cost to anyone who has this problem, regardless of whether their CX-9 is in warranty or out of warranty. Period. That is generally what the lawsuit is seeking for the plaintiffs.
Thank you for all that you are doing!

Interesting course of action after a few years of having many customers struggle with engine replacements. Those that didn't have the means to do the repair, maybe forced to dump the car. Nevertheless, this is great news going forward.

Wonder what extended warranty companies will have to say that covered engine replacements to this point. The notice mentions potential reimbursement for customers but I doubt those companies will be as lucky.

I'm not using it till we know more. I did look it up on whois to see if it is legit but it the info is hidden. Seems to be legit with the links at the bottom. I did look up the name Travis Young and he seems to work Mazda North America and is a mananger of recalls.

Just checking, it is now the 16th, and this morning I decided to check Mazda Customer Reimbursement and it is now listing the recall under our vehicle. In the letter I think that went out, it said to use that site. I'm just curious if anyone has submitted any invoices/paperwork back to Mazda.

I'm just curious, is this an actual recall as it is labeled as a "CSP"? If you look up your vin here my vehicle isnt actually listed as having a recall. But if you look it up here, it is listed as having this issue. Will we actually be notified about this? We are pulling up on a month into this thing, and I haven't received anything as of yet...has anyone by chance got a notification on this?

Sorry...I'm just trying to stay on top of this thing and not miss it. I persoanlly have no desire to give Mazda a free pass on treating its customer base like it did.

It is not a recall, but rather a special service campaign.

The Customer Service Program (CSP11) issued by Mazda is similar to a TSB but giving an extended limited powertrain warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles only for coolant leaks around the exhaust manifold. It won’t be the same as a recall as the CSP11 won’t do anything for you if your 2.5T has no symptoms. But a recall will replace the cylinder head and exhaust manifold gasket with updated versions for all affected engines even if they have no symptoms. Needless to say a recall will be much more costly than a CSP with an extended warranty.

It's funny they don't list it as a recall on the recall look-up, but when you look it up on the reimbursement page it shows/says this..lol. I guess that being said, it begs the question, has anyone submitted anything yet? Assuming there will be no notification?

You’ll receive a Mazda notice from mail if it’s a CSP (Customer Service Program) / SSP (Special Service Program) or a recall.

Letters were supposed to go out to owners mid-November if I remember right. Many have received them already. The letter is just a notification, you should be able to fill out the claim reimbursement form now. I've seen people posting about claiming reimbursements and receiving payouts on Reddit as well.

So I submitted for this last night at 8pm. 9:15 this morning I got a denial email. I am more than infuriated at this, if they don't own up to this, I will be inclined to get a lawyer at this point. It said in the email that my problem/submission didn't pertain to anything in the CSP11. When all the paperwork submitted....literally pertains to this one repair.

I called corporate to inquire, and am supposed to get a call back. I don't believe that will happen, as it didn't happen when the actual failure took place 2 years ago.

Anyone else have this experience?
