16 x 7 40mm offset ???

Ive read all the info I can find on this page regarding 16 x 7 inch rim allowable offsets. Unfortunately there seems to be some dispute as to whether or not a 40 mm offset will work. Can anyone clear this up for me please? I have a 01 Pro sedan & I plan to mount 205/50/16s or 205/45/16s on a set of Nippon 16 x 7 +40s light-weights.

It's been done in the past. Sometimes there's been rubbing w/some people's setups. Chuyler1 just got 40mm offset 16x7's in his and is having no problems w/rubbing if I remember right. Search for a thread started by him about wheels.

you have more room with your sedan than my p5 and I've got the exact set up no rubbing. I am not lowered though. 205/45/16 16x7 40+

Take it easy melicha8.

I read the first post your refering to, but that 7" +45 offset is relitave to a 17" rim. Also, later in that same post there is some discussion regarding 40mm offset, but there is some dispute as to wheather or not it will work. I'm just looking for a definative answer before I buy some 16 x 7 +40's I found a good price on.

Oh and I was planning on droping 1.18" alla Ion spings.

I'd bet it would work just fine, assuming you went with 205/45's rather than 205/50's, just to err on the side of caution.

Did anyone ever tried some 16X7, 40mm offset with 225/45/16 tires ? On a P5 ?

Ive found a good deal on rims and tires that would be pretty sweet for solo2.

EDIT: ive got RB springs on too.

When I was looking at wheel threads I gathered that 16x7 w/ a +40 would be ok ONLY if you're not lowered.

Everything else said that if you're lowered, go with a +45 offset. I'm buying H&R springs and rota slipstreams and will be running 16x7 w/ +45 offset so I can fit on 205/50-16 tires without worries.

Hmm .. that should be interesting.

40mm sticks out a bit

a number of people where running this setup, and lowered...but iirc it was only with 195/50 16" tires to have no rubbing...

Carmaniac has GT-3s in this size...maybe contack him...

the hardest part is the tires though...because not all 205/45s are exactly the same shoulder wise...I always heard that most falken shoulders were usually about a cm bigger than what the tire size would indicate...i.e. 205 actually fits like a 215...and some other tires are the opposite...

I am positive there would be some 205/45 16s that would fit somewhere, lowered or not...its just a matter of which ones...tirerack has good spec lists for determining the measured width of the tire, as apposed to the implied "size"...

yeah, chris is running his 18's (RX-8) with his 215/45/18's on his dropped P5 with no rubbing!

looks sweet!

I have 205/40/16 on Fully Polished Rota GT3's 16x7 42 offset...Don't know if you can really tell in the pic, but here it is

Cool..nice rims. I think my problem will be the tires that I want to fit. 225 migh be too wide for the the rim offset and the car.

215/35/18 actually.

Before that I had 195/50/16 on +40 16x7 Rotas. No rubbing but it was close and it looked as if 205/50/16 would rub. 205/45/16 or 205/40/16 might work.

Here's the 205/50/16 on +40 16x7...

well...I tried fitting them on and, the fronts fit no problem. Even in solo2 conditions, I had no problem at all.

The rear tho. I could move around in the parking lot and it would not rub. But I decided to go park with my rear wheel on a curb to see what would happend if it was to compressed. And here is the results.

So I dont think those would fit without modifying the fenders somehow.
