13psi MP3

I'm not running the boost control, so what/where is this "max boost cell" at?
The "max boost cell" is on the AMP column...by "max boost cell", I mean the top most cell that it reaches in the AMP column. I'm not running boost control either, I have a JoeP.

>What is your ignition advance/retard set to in the global settings?

I'm not sure.

>How much timing are you retarding, the -13?

-15 as of last night. But it started knocking again???

>Nick said that if you wanted to retard degree by degree, then your >ignition/advance limits would have to be like 45/-45 or so to get it close to >being degree by degree.

Interesting.

imagine the power and consistency you'd get running the aem system...
Well, I'm sure I could smooth out my power with tuning. I've done it in the past. $1500 is a lot of coin and isn't worth it to me at this point. But enough about that, I refuse to let this become another AEM vs MPI thread. So that ends here.

also look into the phenolic intake manifold gaskets from outlawengineering.com to reduce the heatsoak (i will probably install one later this year along with a p&p of the head)
I think Little Beavis got one, but he said he had to mod it to even fit right??

-13 sound like allot of pulled timing..i am at 6psi..only only pulled -6 uptop!

Chas
(confused)
Well, it's not a linear thing. And even if it were, at this point we're stil only taking out one "point" per PSI. Only problem is, it's more of an expodential function. The more boost you run, the more retard you need per PSI at peak.

Personally, I ran NO retard at 6psi.

Beta testers? The thing has been around for almost a year, man.
Oh I know, but you and Pattrick are just now starting to figure it all out. For example if I wasn't one of the first 10 guys to install the FM kit I probably would've had a much better first 6 months being boosted. It's learning from others mistakes instead of your own. hehe ;)

i hope you don't have to modify the intake manifold gasket it as it should be bolt on
Gasket is fine, but my spacer DID NOT fit. . .I had to trim here and there. . .and also used it to "match" the intake to the head (which is a good thing).

I don't know if everyone needs to modify theres, but in the end, I needed to cut some clearance because the non-machined (intake) area of my head interfered with the spacer which was slightly larger than the gasket.

She pulls just like a factory car SHOULD now, nice and smooth.

(I don't start my pulls until 3K RPM, so forgive me)

This MPI timing unit problem really shouldn't be hard to figure out...

Using normal "degrees" You have limits of [-45, 45] correct? Knowing this, all you need to know is the limits of the MPI tuner, and the current amount of Tuner Units(aka degrees Modern Performance) you are using..should look like this

dMP * (45/(MPI Max Limit)) = Standard Degree of Timing

Now only if someone can chime in with the Max limit of the MPI timing table...but say it was [-100,100] that would mean that every 45/100 or .45 dMP equal 1 degree of timing. You guys get what I am saying...All we need to do is find a conversion factor(easy enough), and apply that to whatever dMP you are using.

dino can you check the max limits of the software? I am at school and dont have the program here with me...

Of the MPI software? I think it's -20

Went to lunch...

Beat on the car/tuned it

let the car sit while we ate (so the built up heat got to stew)

dynoed the car...

it only spat out 234hp...which is probably due to the warmer-than-yesterday temps, and the fact that it got to heatsoak and such.

I'll try it again tonight and I'm sure it will be 250+

Yeah..heat soak sucks..I am sure that's why i had such low numbers when we dyno'd my ride..using the pda dyno!

Let her cool down..and dyno at nite..when it's cooler..i am sure w/ weather in the 60's you will hit 250hp!

What #'s did your car put out with kewldeeno's PDA dyno?

today is so hot out, im sure that ate some of your power.
