My daily driver so far has been either my Toyota SUV or my P5, but I have a 10th Anniversary Miata in storage. I really want to keep it, but don't have too much space to store a car for long, I am contemplating selling the Miata. I'm asking for advice here, should I sell or keep it? If I sell, how much? I looked at KBB.com and NADA, but I know the car could be worth more than they state. Here are the details:

1999 10th Anniversary Miata, Excellent Condition,
Serial# 4995 of 7500

3,300 miles on odometer

What would you do?

well, it is low mileage, so you'd hope to get more for it, but at the beginning of the cold season is the *worst* time of the year to sell a convertable. (now if you were buying ;)

Most of the 10AEs w/ about 40K miles are going for about 12. W/ only 3300 miles I woudl aim to get 15-16 from it. Someone out there may be willing to pay more, but they're not collectors cars quite yet...

Although... I want one :)

suggestion, post a classified add on miata.net and see what you come up with.

keep it. its value will eventually go higher, ESP with low miles. my dad also has one with 4000 miles. :D

I think you'd have to wait for quite some time before the price starts to rise. 15 years or so as a best guess. While the '91 BRG and the '92 yellows do command a price premium over the normal '91 and '92 models, they're still worth less than they were 5 years ago.

What does your dad do with his? I mean, how does he store it, where, maintenance schedule, etc...

Also, do you know what his Serial Number is?

Wow. Wait that long, huh? I was planning on keeping it until, 2009, when it'll be 20 years anniversary, but things change so I don't really have the room for it. I mean, I CAN store it elsewhere, but that costs money. Gosh just don't know what to do.....

Man, I thought it'd hold a lot more value than that. I paid over $25k for it new, and that was ONLY 4 years ago. $10k loss in value over 4 years....... so sad.....

That's the fun of buying a new car. Big depreciation right off the showroom floor. Unless it's a Land Rover Defender 110 or the lastest low-production Ferrari, you'll wait a while until the prices bounce up again.

Just drive it...or sell it. It'll be ages before it even gains anything, let alone back to the level to which you paid for it...and that's comparing the dollar amount...not what 1999 dollars are really worth in terms of 2009 - 2019... Cars, unless they're near one-offs, are bad investments...

DayOh257,
If you enjoy the car keep it. If you want an investment, I hope you are young. I have one and I enjoy it.

#511/7500

You'd be better off selling the car for $5000 and putting your $$$ in the stock market if you want an investemnt. Drive the damn car like you stole it! It's better that way. Sell it in 2007 and get $800 less than you would get for it if it had 5000 miles. It's a mazda, not a freeken prize jewel:mad:

DO NOT SELL! I repeat DO NOT SELL! They were meant to be driven so go ahead and put some miles on it preferably in turns.

winter protected storage, dealer oil changes every 1500, mazda genuine miata car cover (blue looking material)

:D
not sure what his number is, although i can go check at somepoint,

wait- its already in storage. doh. OH WAIT!
i took a PIC!! :D

I know I am late on this one, but here's my take on it:
I was going to buy a smurf blue NA from a friend. But he had the same issue. He didn't know if he wanted to sell it, but he didn't drive it all the time. I told him "If you're even doubting selling it, don't because there is some piece of you that still loves and wants the little bugger."

After that, I gave him a 1.6L engine that he is building for turbo. (thumb)

I agree with Diane. You obviously bought the car because you like it and are struggling with the notion of selling it. Just keep it, but do start driving it. It will solidify your feelings for it and keep it from dry rotting away.

OT - Diane, when do you guys leave for Michigan? You will be missed.
