D60!!!! VR is priceless, the D60 has a lot of features you will absolutely love. Don't get the aging D40.

That's what I need to research, what would be the benefits of buying one vs. the other. I'm open to suggestions, but I want to play with some of them before I settle on one.

What's so special about the VX lens?

VR lens is vibration reduction, thats a nice feature but its probably still a f5.6 lens which doesnt get much light in which VR would help.

Bill, Mike, which cameras do you have? I want to do some research today while in class. I'm not gonna get the Olympus one, my dad has that and it seems like there are better options out there.

I have the 12 MP Canon XSi or XTi, whichever one is the nicer of the two. I dont know how to use it though so dont listen to me. LOL... I wanted the D80 but couldnt afford it and didnt know MIke yet.

The D80 isn't any better unless you know how to use the functions. It has more rapid adjustability. Otherwise it won't take much nicer of a picture.

I have a Nikon D40X 10.2MP with the standard kit lens (18-55) and a 55-200mm lens, SB400 flash.

Canon is real nice and their stabilization is as well but I like nikon because they are much easier to learn. I gaurantee that you would be more comfortable with a Nikon Bill.

Canon and Nikon are like Ford or GM. Not in exact comparisons either..

Really, they both work well but Nikons are built to be more user-friendly. Canons are more designed for advanced users. Even their point-n-shoots are hard to understand.

Mike, do you carry the D60 at BB? I know Nick and I are seriously considering them right now, and so far the reviews I've read seem to tailor that camera to what I would use it for. Good entry level with the capability to be used in more advanced situations.

I hear ya Mike, I know you were trying to get me to trade it in but you didnt have any in stock. I have a hard time managing my cell phone camera. LOL... I am totally interested in the art side of photography but dont have the time nor energy to do anything about it right now. Maybe when Liam gets a little older I will take a class or two. The one thing I like is the pics I take I can do anything I want to them and they look awesome without any loss of quality.

What kind of deal are we looking at? I can get it for $600 shipped to my door from an authorized vendor. For $810 I can get both lenses.

But you cant get insurance on it like you can at BB. Trust me, you drop that camera it is over... BB will sell you that insurance that even if you drive over it in your car, on purpose they will replace it for free.

All of mine are nature shots with the exception of the one with Matt's front end covered in leaves.

Maybe with your canon, I've dropped my nikon numerous times, that camera has been through hell and hasnt failed me. My 3 year warranty from the company i bought it from online is up and still havent had any issues other than a dusty image sensor.

Did any of them turn out good?
