I got one week for spring break before my living hell starts at school, I only owned this car for less then two weeks so I don't know that much about it, and I'm signed up for summer school so I don't plan on having any thing remotely resembling a life after spring break and throughout the summer. So any help would be appreciated.

First thing I wanted to get was a cat-back exhaust. I heard some guys GReddy Evo kit (i think thats what it was), sorry I don't remember your name. Neway I loved that exhaust sound so I wanna get it. Where can I purchase and install the kit.

Second, I've been hearing alot of info on what the legal limit is for tints in IL. The most accurate from what I understand is no tint is allowed in the front and limo in the backs. But what can I really get in the front without "much" legal trouble.

Third, some other type of bolt on performance part. I already got the intake, and I already plan on the cat-back, but I don't know what else is available for this vehicle. This is my daily driver so I don't wanna risk voiding the warranty.

damn, i'm already strapped for time, i can't even finish this message. gotta go (freak)

I really didn't think about a limit as to how much i'd spend. I figured I'd buy one part at a time and see how things move along.

as for protegegarage.com, I didn't see the GReddy cat back. Does anyone living around the Burbank/Bridgeview area have the Borla cat back. I'd like to hear how it sounds before I make the purchase.

also what other bolt on can I get (other then the turbo) :)

shareef, you shoulda made it to the meet at Starved Rock.

We had Mazdaspeed, Racing Beat, and Greddy EVO on Protege5's and it offered a good way to "sample" the sounds.

Personally, I thought the Greddy was a little too loud for my tastes. The Racing Beat definitely sounds great. I'm also looking at the Magnaflow cat back now.....

They are a ton of bolt-ons you can get for the P5 performance wise

here are a few:

underdrive pulley
fuel pressure regulator
headers
cams
cam gears
throttle body
intake manifold
mid-pipe w/hi-flow cats
spark plug wires

here are some sites

BTW.. Go to my name and go to my homepage to check out some of my mods. So maybe you can get an idea on what you would like to do and ask me if your looking for something in particular maybe I can help but I listed a lot of sites for you so that you can check out what's avaliable for this awsome car.

if you can't find anything local, www.apexr1.com has the greddy evo for $430 before shipping.

as for another mod, i'd go with suspension. eibachs are good.

good luck with school.

we carry the GReddy EVO, it is not listed on the site as we believe that GReddy is discontinuing the exhaust soon because of low demand. I was told by my GReddy contact that they only have a "few left". He didn't seem confident that there were going to be any more after those few shipped.

email me at Ken@Mazda3Online.com and I'll find pretty much anything you are looking for.

my bud Pro5OnSpeed has 5% limo tint all the way around on his black mica protege5. he has yet to get a ticket for it. it depends on the cop really, and you might get a "fix it" ticket for it. the law says zero up front and no darker than 35% in the rear.

if your from IL talk to protegegarage.com
ah man, you don't have to be from IL to buy from me :) i have a customer in Taiwan, a customer in Turkey and three customers from Canada.

First day of spring break, guess I better start working on the car:

NRRfrogmanP5: i had the Eibach sportlines on my previous car, an '02 Cavalier, and lasted about a month with the most horrible ride i've ever felt, my ass took a pounding from every little pebble I'd hit. So I had to take em off. I'd like to feel the ride on a P5 before I try that again. as for the headers, where do I pick em up? i'm all for it.

Dimitrios: i didn't purchase the car till after the meet, but i'll be sure to go to the next one.

Captain KRM P5: seeing that they're discontinuing it, I doubt that it was a good one to start with. so what models that aren't being discontinued that are good. i'm looking for a full cat-back, oh and i'm going to get 20% tints up front, and 35% in the back.

Subghetto: thanks for all the sites, but that's a little too much for me to get into. i just got the car and don't even know where to begin. btw, nice car.

well i guess i'd only be able to get a cat-back, headers, and tints this week. now i need to know which brands to get and where.

anyone know of a good local tint shop i could go to (burbank/brideview)?

get the racing beat exhaust. it looks nice, sounds nice, and isnt super expensive. the greddy exhaust was too loud and it was huge. i fit my entire fist in it, and i had room around it. it is literally about 6 inches wide

1. Greddy Cat-bach Exhaust (like protejay5 said, it was too loud and too big lol)
2. Racing beat Cat-back ( I have one, not loud as greddy but it has deep smooth tone)
3. Headers (you can get one from awrracing.com or join GB for Ractive Header)
4. Eibach Springs (I have them in my car with mp3 struts, it is really smooth and no more cd skipping :D)
5. Intake
  • AEM SRI-Never tried
  • E-Bay SRI-their brackets and filter sucks!!!
  • Injen CAI-looks good, sounds ok, ok filter, but shipping is little slow
  • K&N Typoon CAI, looks really good, sounds really good, filter is amazing, very fast shipping)
6. Tinting (I don't know about % of tinting but I did medium to dark, costs was $180 with lifetime warranty)

the reason they are discontinuing the evo 1 exhaust is that the cat back piping was not made from bling bling stainless steel. the evo 2 is scheduled to come out in a few weeks with full stainless steel piping.

i just don't like how the evo's tip is GIANT at the back of the car, but when you look to see how big the opening is for the exhaust piping itself, it's all tiny. it does sound good though. i haven't been inside the car with one, but being behind it, it does sound mellow and deep. not sure how much louder it is than the racing beat. i have the racing beat myself. i'd recommend the RB exhaust to anyone.
