'08 3: CAI causing hydrolock, confirmed!

mature.

what is wrong with it? a CAI did cause hydrolock.

if the thread was "all CAI's cause hydrolock, i told you so!" then you'd be absolutely correct. you guys keep lumping in every CAI, i've even stated that i don't know who made the CAI just yet, or even given you pictures yet that maybe you can just point out the root cause.

One could argue the CAI in question did not cause the hydrolock; it was caused by water leaking onto the filter, not being sucked into the filter. With my set-up, and that of everyone else, there's no way this would happen. That being said, you do, several times in various posts, address the on-going debate about CAI's and essentially say, "I told you so". If you aren't able to see that your posts and your title essentially claim to be relevant to that debate, but are, in fact, not then I am at a loss. Good luck.

fact: the CAI has water in it after being parked
fact: if he had the stock intake on this could not have happened (water never entered the stock box)

conclusion: the CAI caused water intake.

any addition to this conclusion is your own.

honestly, what is this, the womens side of the mazda forum? every time i say one thing its repeated back completely different. maybe you guys should just set down the NOS energy drink and go outside for a fresh breath of air for a while. there is nothing to argue here. if you want to keep making up assumptions to what i've actually said, just skip past my thread. i've never seen so much pointless garbage on a forum before, and i'm a part of many automotive forums. even as a moderator and admin on some of the forums i've never seen this kind of immature crap.

Lol...some of you guys are dumb as ****...ANY, yes ANY CAI can cause hydrolock...it doesn't matter who the hell makes it...why do you think AEM makes something that you ADD ON to their existing CAI's so that you do not cause this problem...I have hydrolocked two motors on previous cars running a CAI which is the reason I do not have one anymore...not worth it...both of them were NAME BRANDS...and it is posted about a TON all over the web...since when does an AEM/K&N filter prevent it...biggest bunch of BS...

No body here said that a name brand CAI will never cause hydro-lock.
What's being argued here is the difference between a no-name brand over a reputable brand.

The majority of what I said could make it seem like I'm saying that a reputable brand for a CAI will make it impossible for a hydro-lock, but that's not what I meant.

Okay then. To make it clear to EVERYONE.

Most if not all of us are not saying that hydrolocking is impossible with a non-eBay brand CAI.
Hydrolocking is possible with ANY CAI from ANY BRAND. We are simply arguing that it is not as likely if use a brand that is reputable, but STILL POSSIBLE.

FALSE...it is JUST as likely, if you are getting enough water up there for an ebay CAI to hydrolock, you are getting enough for ANY CAI...

Well, I drove through some really heavy rain today. No hydrolock.
But then again, for the OP, it's a matter of what the **** is wrong with the 3 that hydrolocked. Lol.

(lol2)subbin! you guys are cracking me up!

got me on this one ive been running an injen CAI for 8-9 months no problems, just dont be a dip s*** and drive through 4 inches of water and think you can make it out like a jeep can

True that son. Any time that you make changes to a car you will run some sort of risk and will need to be prepared to have issues, period.

"the cone filter points upwards in the drivers side inner fender and when it rains (quite often here in oregon) water runs down the hood line and right onto the filter"

This is what immediately caught my attention! Unless it's mis-worded...filter pointing up would alow water to puddle inside the piping. A typical cai dives down so that gravity would not allow water to get in unless the filter was nearly submerged.

8yrs running cai in a slammed vehicle...5min to switch to sri if needed which as slammed as my car is I would have water in the car first before it got to my filter :)

it looks identical to the Injen units i have seen pictured on this site. from the filter side it goes down under the frame horn, then up and turns to the intake.
