    For synthetic oils it's all about pour point. Even an identically rated conventional oil is going to be like sludge when it's really cold out. The benefit of the synthetic oils is that shifting will be smoother on those really cold mornings. There are other advantages like film strength...

    Hard to go wrong with Mobil1. The 75w140 will be thicker when hot. Not sure you want that. If the thinner oil has all the properties that the OEM wants, why go thicker? It will give you slightly worse fuel mileage as there will be greater pumping losses. Probably negligible.

    Hello and my first Protege tech-DIY question

    Hi all, proud owner of a new-to-me 1999 Mazda Protege 4-door with MT. So I'm going over it and getting it ready for it's Maryland safety inspection and one thing I've noticed is the J-bar for the inboard side of the battery hold-down is missing. At least I assume it's a J-bar that goes there...
