I installed a PG turbo inlet on the CX7 recently. I must say I am surprised at the difference it made in driveability! My wife thinks it's louder now (I have a cobb sri too), but it doesn't sound that much different to me. The performance difference, although not going to throw you back in...

Fuel pump? I have a similar sound and dealer diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump (the high pressure DI one driven by the cam)

save the parts buy a CX-7!

if you're really watchful you can score an OEM turbo on ebay for $82 shipped. Thats what I did, the guy didn't know what car it was from, so he didn't even list it right! (upbum) heh heh heh.
