    Stock Potenzas are horrible...

I only got about 6500 miles out of the stock rubber... they seemed to work OK, but then I switched to Kumho XS's which are much better, performance-wise anyways. I'm at 15,000 miles now and the Kumhos are about shot, so next up I will be putting on Yoko A08's...

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 Anyone Have Them Yet?

Great tire. Autocrossers seem to rave about them. If they are anything like the Kumho XS in 225/45/18, which is what I have, you will get a little bit of rubbing in the rear under really hard cornering. I've put about 3000 miles on my Kumhos and the rubbing hasn't become much of an issue, I...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Bummer about all you went thru. My MS3 is staying pretty much stock. Aside from some sticky tires and maybe some Koni's, I don't really want to do much to it...even down to rolling the rear fenders. The car is plenty fast for me in stock form, thats why I probably should have just stuck with...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Ya, I did read that. If its the inside edge of the tire, it will be real tough to tell where its rubbing. I guess I could pull each rear wheel every so often and see if there are any signs its rubbing. It happens in such a rare instance, I don't think I'm going to worry about it. If it was...

    Tires

I've not heard anythhing about those particular tires, but the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo can be had for about $121 each ($484 for a set) and then there is a $50 rebate. The Hankooks have ranked very well in the couple tire tests I've seen...took 2nd behind the Dunlop Star Spec in Car & Drivers...

    False Horsepower Rating

I agree. My daily driver is a 2007 WRX. Fun little car, but no comparison to the MS3 as far as power and torque. Both cars are bone stock, and my MS3 pulls so much harder than my WRX.

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Filled the car up with gas this morning and took it out for another shakedow. I still can't figure out where its rubbing, and it only happens at two specific spots...both are sweepers that I'm taking around 50mph and the road sorta dips down. When the suspension compresses, I can hear a slight...

Anyone running this brand of wheel that can speak for its quality?

Kosei's have always been popular with autocrossers, and I've seen them on a lot of track cars too. A few years back the regular K1 Racing was popular, but I think they discontinued that wheel and came out with the K1 TS. Tire Rack carries the K1 TS...

New Koni Sports in, is ride height correct?

So is the general consensus that the Koni Sports cause the MS3 to sit higher in the front? I was looking at pics over here m a z d a s p e e d f o r u m s.org/forum/mazdaspeed-3-how-tos/16472-koni-fsd-shock-strut-damper-install.html (get rid of space or the URL won't work) and that guy shows...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Ya, I haven't given up yet. I'm gonna try to figure out where its rubbing first. Could be something really minor. On a side note, these Kumho XS tires offer some SERIOUS grip.

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Yup. The .9 I mentioned was comparing the 225/40 to the 225/45 that I got, so you are correct. The .6 differentiation from the factory tires doesn't sound too bad, but I read in another thread (or two) that the fender gap was huge. Who knows really, until you try it. I didn't expect to have...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Ya, I think that could be the problem with Tire Racks measurements. They seem to list the same measurements for each tire size, no matter what brand or model tire. So, the accuracy is probably not quite there. I have read on a couple forums that the Kumho XS runs a bit wide compared to other...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

I was going by the specs listed on Tire Racks website. Not sure how accurate those are, but for the Kumho XS they list the following... 225/45-18: OD is 25.9" 225/40-18: OD is 25.0"

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Hindsight being 20/20, I would have probably spent the extra $$ and ordered the Yokohama AD08 in the factory 215/45-18. From what I've read, that is a sweet tire, but it's also expensive. That's sorta why I took the chance on the 225/45 size and went with the less expensive Kumho (also a great...

    Tire Wear

My stock rubber only lasted 9100 miles...and the tires were rotated at each oil change. I was surprised to only get that many miles out of them, but I guess all those trips to the Dragon (14 runs on my last visit) could have something to do with it.

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

Ya, the overall O.D. is slightly more with these 225/45 tires. Its rubbing somewhere, I just can't tell exactly where. Sorta frustrating since I did ALOT of research on this before buying...even Tire Rack said they would not rub. Maybe these Kumho's are a bit bigger than other 225/45 tires...

225/40-18 vs. 225/45-18 tires on stock wheels with stock suspension

I ended up going with the Kumho XS in 225/45-18. Took the car out this morning for a shakedown. All is well in smooth sharp corners or smooth high speed sweepers, BUT I did notice some rubbing in the rear whenever the corners were not so smooth or there was a dip in the road. I guess while...

What are you guys paying for mounting/balancing tires?

I don't think its necessarily the size, its the sidewall aspect ratio of the tire. They say that the 35,40, and 45's are more difficult to install. The cheapest I could find here locally is $24.95 per... even the Tire Rack recommended installer listing for my area confirmed that. Nobody...

What are you guys paying for mounting/balancing tires?

How come I can't find these $15/wheel deals LOL? I've had three different places quote me $15-20 initially, but then as soon as they find out I have 18" wheels and 45 series tires, the price pretty much doubles. I have found one place that will do it for $24.95 per wheel but, for the most...
