Protege5 - How many miles have you gone before changing the timing belt?

I had my 2003 Protege5's timing belt changed last year (03/25/2009) because the belt was still original; six years old. I was told that all belts should be replaced after five years even if it is a low mileage vehicle. I waited six years to replace the timing belt 42,000 miles. My 2003 Protege5...

    Gas mileage is still good.

Recently, I have been recording the miles driven and the gallons of gas in order to see what my 2003 Protege 5 is getting in gas mileage these days. Very rarely do I drive on the highway, most of the miles are city. So, I am getting between 18 and 20 miles per gallon with the widows up and the...

    Ethos Fuel Addittive

I have been using Ethos ForEarth for 2 years, in the oil and the fuel, on my 2003 Mazda Protege 5 with 48,000 miles. I find it is doing a great job keeping the noxious fume emissions low and the drive smooth. I find the engine and car drive just close to new at this time. The last time I had...

Thumping Sound and Feeling(like a flat tire) at 30 mph and up.

I think it happened at the Car Dealership Shop. I had brakes overhauled, coolant flushed and cleaned, Oil, Filter and Lube in the past 6 months. I really doubt it was an angry neighbor.

Thumping Sound and Feeling(like a flat tire) at 30 mph and up.

I can't believe it. I took my Protege5 to the Midas by my house. You were all wrong to my relief. The lug nuts were loose on the driver side wheel. The technician tightened up my lugs nuts for free. Thanks for all you help and speculations. Much Appreciated, Mik.

Thumping Sound and Feeling(like a flat tire) at 30 mph and up.

Yes it is a rythmic thumping after 30 mph not before. I just went and checked the entire surface of tires for the 5th time since. The tires do not have anything stuck on or in them.

Thumping Sound and Feeling(like a flat tire) at 30 mph and up.

This started yesterday afternoon. All of a sudden my 2003 Mazda Protg 5 Hatchback 4 Door with 4-Cyl. 2.0 Liter Automatic Front Wheel Drive sounds like it has a flat at 35 mph. So we pull over and check the tires. No flat. So we roll the car back and forth check to see if something is stuck to...
