    New clutch install issues

Well it pissed rain most of the weekend, but I was able to get the damn thing to shift after bleeding the slave with the key on. There is still very little pressure in the pedal, but the tranny does change gears without difficulty. Drove it a bit and discovered my front left CV axle is clicking...

    New clutch install issues

Hey everyone, hoping that you guys can help me out with a pain in the a** here. I have a '99 Protege with a 1.8l and a 5 spd (177000 kms), it's been slipping for ages and I finally got around to changing the clutch set. New pilot bearing, release bearing, disc and plate were installed without a...

    Engine swap?

Hey guys, My little 1.8l has been having a lot of issues lately without giving me a CEL or any soft codes. So while hunting for a fix I've stumbled across the chance to get a Japanese 2.0l with a 5spd trans out of 1998 626. Anyone ever tried a swap like that? And would it actually work? Or am I...

'01 Protege Broke Down - Just venting

I picked up my 99 Protege LX 1.8l two years ago when it was at 111,000KM. Just rolled it past 155000 and am only now having to replace some major pieces like the rear struts, exhaust and clutch disc. Life is easier when you work in the Auto Parts business tho :P.

    Improving a 1.8L

Mine is definitely an LX, and since it's all original you could definitely get the LX with a 1.8l. The original owner poured on every option for the car when it was new, so that must have been one of them. It is; in all fairness, a mis-badged ES basically.

    Improving a 1.8L

Wow. That's more info than I expected! Thanks for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming, every piece of advice is much appreciated. ghostbusters: '99 uses the FP-DE, it's similar to a Miata 1.8l as far as I know, just different cams and some other internal changes. Not Jo3l: Check your MAF, I...

    Improving a 1.8L

Sounds good, I have a replacement clutch on the way, and I'll see about getting an intake. As for suspension, what can/should I do to improve it? It already handles like a dream, especially around corners. Do any companies make urethane bushing replacement kits? Thanks in advance! :)

    Improving a 1.8L

So, I've had my '99 Protege LX 1.8L w/ 5pd manual for a while now, and my clutch disc is almost gone (bought the car used, body is like-new, but the clutch always had some slip in it). So I figured I'd throw either an Exedy stock replacement in, or a Centerforce Stage 1 or Dual Friction jobby. I...
