Am beginning to see the benefits of the sliding doors because the dog is about 50 pounds (too big to lift more than a few feet) and people here in Ottawa don't seem to know how to park within two yellow lines. We'll see how tomorrow's test drive goes! Thanks all.

You're right Anthony - no more Focus wagon here in Canada which is why I'm looking at an 06. Thanks for everyone's feedback. However with no kids (and no plans for them ever) the sliding doors are probably the thing I dislike the most about the 5... So minivan-esque!!!
