It was the clutch. On my test drive I tried to take off from a stop sign in 3rd, b/c I wasn't used to the shifter detents--my old SE-R's stick flops right over to the 1st/2nd gate but the MS6 stays in 3/4 unless you push. I went ahead & bought it anyway...no recurrences yet!

Thanks...sounds like there are other things it could be besides clutch then. Owner mentioned some kind of coating(?) on the engine. Car is type A and will need the clutch tsb service, probably. What do y'all consider a reasonable deal for a private-party 06 GT, 3k mi, no nav, in mint-ish...
