    choices choices choices...help!

The stock Speed3's offset is + 52.5 mm. You should stay as close as possible to that when choosing an aftermarket wheel in order to preserve the correct suspension geometry. Altered offsets can result in "darty" behavior, particularly during medium to hard braking. Wheels with different...

    choices choices choices...help!

Be certain that those wheels accept the Tire Pressure Sensors. Many aftermarket wheels don't. The Tire Rack has wheels that do and that's all they sell for our cars. They install the TPS units before they mount and balance the tires. They use the Hunter 9700 force balancing system, which is...

    downgrading to 17"s?

I'm installing 225/45/18s on 18" X 7.5" ASA AR1 alloys as my street set-up. (I'm going to use the stock rims for the winter after i have some snows mounted on them.) You're right; the stock rim is too narrow (and too heavy) for auto-cross (or any other form of competition.)

    downgrading to 17"s?

Many people wouldn't want to go through the hassle of having the hubs bored, but that's good information. I didn't think 245s would fit on a Speed 3; I guess I was wrong. How has your Speed 3 done in Autocrossing?

    downgrading to 17"s?

No 15" wheel is going to clear a Speed 3's front calipers. Many (all") 16" aluminum wheels won't clear a Speed 3's front caliper. I'm not even certain that every 16" steel wheel would fit. A spacesaver probably will (haven't yet checked the size of my Speed 3's spacesaver), but those aren't...

    downgrading to 17"s?

Which 3 do you have? The "S" models use 11.8" front rotors, while the "i" models use 10.9" front rotors. You must have an "S" if you've only got 0.25" of clearance between the caliper and the 16" wheel. The Speed 3 uses 12.6" front rotors, which are 0.8" larger than the 11.8" rotors. That's...

So how many miles on your stock speed3 tires?

I can't wait until mine wear out and I "justify" buying some 225/45-18s on a set of 18" X 7.5" wheels. 15K miles is about all you can expect out of these tires unless you drive VERY cautiously and live in a cooler climate.

    downgrading to 17"s?

What diameter were the stock Protege wheels? (I'm new to the Mazda world). Did you install them on a Speed 3? Other vehicles I've had experience with suggest that a 12" rotor is a good "rule of thumb" limit for a cast aluminum 16" wheel. Some 16s may clear the speed 3s calipers, but some...

    downgrading to 17"s?

Those calculators only give good approximations of tire sizes. Actual sizes (e.g. tread width and diameter) can vary slightly. The Tire Rack publishes ACTUAL manufacturer specs for tire diameter, tread width, etc. for virtually every tire it sells. Compare various tires that are "the same...

    downgrading to 17"s?

I can't see any details in that photo, but that wheel looks like it's steel. Steel wheels have thinner walls than aluminum wheels because steel is much stronger than aluminum. The steel wheel will therefore likely have a larger I.D. (thereby providing greater caliper clearance than an...

Who thinks the MS3's suspension is stiff?

I installed Tein Super Streets on my 2006 Accord and they ruined the car. The rears "knocked" over bumps and the fronts weren't stiff enough for a real performance set-up - even with the dampers dialed maxed out (that model is adjustable). The "knocking" comes from the spring chattering...

    225/45/18 on 18" X 7.5" Wheels

The OEM tire diameter of the Speed 3's stock Bridgestones is 25.7" per the Tire Rack's site. The Tire Rack lists specific diameters for virtually every tire they sell; a 225/45/18 is typically around 25.9", which is just 0.20" larger than stock. That's a very small variation and the slightly...

    225/45/18 on 18" X 7.5" Wheels

Has anyone had any actual experience with this combination on a Mazdaspeed 3? I just bought an '07... I plan on using the OEM wheels with snows as my winter set-up (I live in the Northeast) and running aftermarket 18" X 7.5" for the summer. Offset would be critical here, I suspect, in order...

    Speed 3 wheel/tire question.

    1) Will 225/45s fit (no rubbing issues) on the stock 18'X7" rim? 2) Is anyone successfully running 17" wheels on Speed 3s? I am looking into a winter wheel/tire package and would be interested in getting feedback from people who have actually done this.

    downgrading to 17"s?

    15s won't clear the front calipers on a Speed 3. 16s likely wouldn't, either.
