    Brake pulsing

I feel it in the pedal. My wife recently had a bad rotor and could feel that everywhere. No, I haven't done anything to the car.

    Brake pulsing

I don't have ABS. The pulsing in the pedal just feels very similar to when ABS engages.

    Brake pulsing

But wouldn't it feel different at 10mph than 50? I forgot to mention that this started overnight. One day the brakes feel fine. The next I have the ABS feeling every stop. Shouldn't I have noticed some kind of warping before it got this bad?

    Brake pulsing

Recently my brakes started to give me a pulse through the pedal. It feels similar to when ABS engages, a bit slower though, but I don't have ABS. The brakes do work and I'm stopping, but I'm worried that might change after not too long. I've checked my rotors and pads and they don't show...

Front Pipe and Blower Motor Resistor

Yes, I meant a front pipe. I found a few on ebay for under $30. This Bosal is $66, but with digging it can be had for $60. I can't find the link, but I thought I found one online that was also in the $30 range. No idea on the difficulty, though the labor quote was 1/4 higher than changing...

Front Pipe and Blower Motor Resistor

I had my P5 in the muffler shop today and got a look at my front pipe. It lost the heat shield and could use replacing as it is rather rusted. The shop quoted $170 for a new one! I've found them online between $20-30, but none of them appear to be the same as stock. The stock appear to have...

    Battery or Alternator?

I went ahead and purchased a new battery. I put it in today and removed the old one, a Panasonic. So I'm guessing it was the original. The thing was so dead it took a few tries at jump-starting it so I could even get the car into the garage. 6-7 years and 85k miles wasn't bad for that little...

    Battery or Alternator?

Add me to the list of cold weather woes. I'm just not sure if it is the fault of the battery or if it could be the alternator. When I turn the key, the lights are fine, radio, etc. When I try to start the car, it clicks and tries to turn over, but fails. The battery light has never come on...

    Bad gas mileage

I've found that disconnecting the battery gives me a crappy next tank while the computer figures things out again. Something might be up. I just had a 400 mile tank with a good mix of city/hwy driving and I've done nothing special to my car. Slowing down has bumped my mileage a good 20-30...

    Engine Missfire

I had a similar problem. I'd get P0300 codes and a drop in power for a few seconds. Every once in a while I'd get the P0421 too. I couldn't find coil packs anywhere for under $85. I ended up doing the 2.0 to 1.8 coil swap. The mod took care of the P0300 and I think it runs a lot smoother. I'm...

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

Finished! Whew. My back is killing me, but I completed the swap this afternoon. I threw in a new set of plugs even though my last ones are only 6-8 months old. Wasn't a bad mod except for re-routing the wires. That's what killed my back. Anyway, I took some pics and I'd like to put up a...

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

I haven't dug under the hood to check on the wires. I thought I read that it goes pretty far back. Any guess on how long of a run it is?

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

I thought I read in one of the other threads about re-wrapping the harness with electrical tape. Is that the best means?

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

Ok, the pieces are in place. I have my wires, new plugs, valve cover, and I'll pick-up the coil pack from NAPA tonight. I hope to do the swap this weekend. I'm planning on taking some pics and tell how it went. Any advice from those who have done the swap? How much of a pain is changing the...

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

True, $95 sounds high, but it may be someone's last resort. I tried a bunch of yards around here and came up empty. Maybe Motown isn't the best place to find 626 parts.

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

I now have all the pieces for the swap on order. I have a NAPA store a few miles away that sells the coil for $41. That's $2 more than the online price, but I'm sure shipping would have been more than that. Others might want to check out that option. If you're looking for a 626 valve cover, I...

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

Yup, I think that's what makes the difference.

    P5 1.8 coil swap project

I'm having random misfires with my 02' P5. RockAuto.com & BBB Automotive are out of ignition coils and don't know when they'll get new ones in. So, I think I'm going to go with the 1.8 coil swap talked about in this thread and also in this thread. Here's what the parts boil down to and what I...

How To: MP3/P5/MSP Front & rear Pad/Rotor Change (No 56K)

My friend offered to lend a hand with changing my front brakes and said I needed two things to do the job right. New hardware and an adhesive to keep the hardware and the pad together. Do I need new hardware? The car has 66K miles in Michigan weather. Am I better safe than sorry by picking up...

ABS & E-Brake Lights stay on

I'll second the topping-off of the fluid. I had this problem primarily in cold weather. Even though the levels were decent, all it took was a glug or two of fluid and it went away. If it is on ALL the time, I'd say either a bad sensor or something really is wrong.
