Yes, that is the correct mod, worked perfect for me. I just grounded the parking brake (light green) and the mute (yellow & black), after moving it up one pin, to the same spot. Haven't had a problem yet!

I haven't really paid attention to that, i know for sure it says the freeway names, but i'll have to check it out tomorrow when i go to work to see if it says the street names too.

It will show all cross-streets as long as you are zoomed in enough to see them. So far it has had no problem saving the entire route. The farthest I have drove with it is about 40 miles and it worked great. And no it was not a custom fab job. I actually bought the part on ebay for only $9.99...
