Far too many CX-9 2.5T motors being replaced. I was one of the early ones little over a year ago, but not related to coolant leaks. It was loss of compression in one of the cylinders. I had my CX-9 for another 15,000 miles before trading it in for a Bronco. It was fine for those 15,000 miles...

The 2JZ-GTE from the Supra was a phenomenal motor. The new Supra (cough cough)….BMW engine….is not the same.

Am I the only one that thinks the CX-50 looks like an Outback competitor? Mazda said the CX-5 isn’t going anywhere. With the first photos showing trail tires, wider/lower looking stance and more rugged, it looks like Mazda is going after Subaru here.

I’ve never used anything but 87 in my CX-9. Always ran fine. I didn’t lose faith in the brand, just going for something different this time around.

Let’s hope so, but it seems to be happening more frequently now. Plus, there was a head issue on the n/a 2.5’s that was wide spread.

My CX-9 is a 2017 I should look on my paperwork to send what the part number for the block is. Wonder if it’s updated.

The Ford/Mazda partnership ended 12 years ago. There is zero Ford influence with the 2016+ CX-9. From the OP’s posts, the original thought was it needed an engine....then discovered it was the head. Perhaps they found the problem with the head after the motor was pulled?

Rough idle when in gear. It felt like a motor mount failed. That’s what I thought it was, or gummed up spark plugs. Got my car back today. New long block. Runs great.

My dealer said I’m the first case they had, but Mazda has seen a few of these cases around. My symptoms triggered tech line to recommend a compression test.

Anyone here have issues with the 2.5T? My CX-9 is currently at the dealer getting a new engine. An issue with a vibration at idle that was caused by loss of compression in one cylinder. Pretty shocked....thankfully, covered under warranty.

Holy Moses, that was an interesting thread from 3 years ago. I believe that guy got banned but was spewing nonsense about Mazda engineering. I’d have to get all my notes from that time period, but it was some cool stuff Mazda worked on. Many of which you can see in Dave Colman’s interviews...

Did you dyno your CX-9?

I like everything I see, but the acceleration times in the 6 isn’t anything special, and the CX-5 is only .1 sec quicker than the extinct Forester XT while boasting much more TQ and the Forester has a stinkin CVT!! I’m sure the 3 will be fun to drive, but I expect more out of that type of power...
