P5 Steelies with tires (New York)

195/60/15. Tread wear looks fairly even and there's around 4 to 5mm depth left on all tires. Like I said, you might get another season out of them, but if it were me I'd replace them anyway. It's too cold and dark to take more pictures right now.

P5 Steelies with tires (New York)

P5 recently totalled, no more need for these. Wheels have a bit of surface rust but are straight and not damaged. The winter tires may have another season left in them. Located in Pomona, NY. Looking for $40, or make me an offer. Pick up only.

what tools does everyone use to clean their egr valve?

The original EGR design is crap - at 60K miles I cleaned the original with brake cleaner, soaked the thing for hours until it was spotless, but lo and behold, 10k later it was gummed up again. Just get a new one with the better integrated heatshield design - that's what I did, the $80 is well...

    Need Help Brake Problem

You need to pinpoint where the leak is coming from. Park the car on a dry, level, preferably smooth concrete surface overnight - then it should be obvious by looking at the ground in the morning where the car is leaking from. Oh, and it goes without saying that you really shouldn't be driving a...

    Rattling/Squeaking From Rear Wheel Well

A squeak at low speeds suggests dragging pads, not sure how a strut can squeak. Is it all the time, or just over bumps for example? Rattle - dunno - maybe the caliper is rattling and the noise is travelling up the strut - noises are notoriously difficult to pinpoint.

    Heat shield fell off

lol, I don't need the hassle of replacing the exhaust, just want to know that it's safe to drive without the heatshield.

    Heat shield fell off

Well, there's definitely no rattling with it off, which is nice. Guess I'm just a little concerned about the floorpan getting too hot and stuff melting or something... probably just me being paranoid.

    Heat shield fell off

Well, the cylindrical-shaped exhaust heat shield (over the cat?) finally rusted and vibrated itself off today. Couple of questions: 1) Is it even worth trying to get a new one refitted? From what I can gather, they don't really do much. I'm not in the habit of parking over long, dry grass...

    FS: Protege5 AWR Endlinks

***** SOLD ***** WYSIWYG - no washers, bolts etc. - a bit grotty, but I couldn't be bothered to clean them up. They work fine, I just could never fix the damn clunking. First one to offer me $15 gets them (shipped to mainland US) These are rear endlinks.

    umm..something's leaking..

Actually, I would say it's more likely to be the cause than a hose "suddenly" springing a leak. Just keep an eye on the coolant level, and if it doesn't go down, and the smell disappears after a few days, it's likely just spilled coolant being burned off the block or somewhere else that gets hot.

    Low cost summer tires 195/50/R16

You generally get what you pay for with tires - I have ziex 512s on, and they are fine in the dry, but after 6 months + of experience, I am not overly impressed with their wet performance - they are ok in the snow. Never heard of matador tires - but I would doubt their quality to be honest...

    Trans Fluid?

Hmmm - all I see there is lots of speculation and little scientific evidence, to be honest. The only people who know for sure what's going on is the manufacturer. In any case, I think it boils down to exactly how "synthetic" is defined. It seems that mobil 1 can still claim to be fully...

    Trans Fluid?

Cite your source, or this is BS - mobil 1 has never been anything other than a full synthetic. As far as I'm concerned, I'd never use amsoil - it's hugely over-hyped and overpriced and I hate the spammy websites that sell the stuff. Mobil1 FTW every time!

    brakes help

Squealing is more likely to be caused by either the pad material itself (if so, there's not a lot you can do about it), or vibration between the piston face and the pad backing when the brakes are applied. In the latter case, you can get anti-squeal goop and spread over the back of the pads (or...

Aftermarket Sway with Stock Endlinks ( Breakage )

Yes, I have the stock struts and no problems so far, but I drive pretty conservatively. I'm sure more vigorous drivers would be more comfortable with fatter tabs on there (i.e. upgraded struts).

Aftermarket Sway with Stock Endlinks ( Breakage )

I think the stock tabs are fine as long as you don't drive the car like you stole it, and don't go hurtling up driveways on 3 wheels. The tabs will break before the endlinks for sure, but the stock endlinks are weak and prone to knocking and seizing up. You may end up having to cut the things...

    Clueless drivetrain issue?

I really doubt it's a tranny problem, unless it's shuddering when you are not moving at all. What does "just barely moving" mean? Does it happen when you change into drive with your foot firmly on the brake so you are totally stationary? If it starts to shake when you move slowly, your rear...
