So the other day I was driving my 2003 Protege ES and listening to the 6 disc in dash CD changer (rather loud, I should add). All of a suddon, boom... no sound. Welcome to the club! I just bought a 2003 Protege ES as well, only mine's a maroon 5 speed. I think that the 5 speed makes a big difference in quickness (and I also found that having the A/C off gives it a big boost as well, but that's going to be hard to live with considering how miserable this...

Thanks for the info vapors, that's definitely helpful. I really covet the '03 ES and aside from it being broken or already sold, I should have it by early next week. As far as the reviews I've read concerning road noise, does anyone have a suggestion as far as a good tire brand/size for the ES?
