I think replacing it is the way to go.

I used to sell mazdas at a stealership..and yes prices are off the wall for nething from them. Even with my discount it was still outrageous !!!! my mazdaspeed license plate cover was 35 bucks...just for that with a fricking discount....50..if u were just a joe off the street.

A new tranny fixed my car cuz the 01 components were crappy....and shiftforks were weak as hell. I got an late 02 tranny...car is a brand new car.

My mp3 is stuck in 3rd gear. I broke the shift fork and yes it is a common problem because the put crappy components in the 01 tannys.... i have had 3 other ppl tell me they had the same problem. (hand)

thnx for the advice. i will take that into consideration when i make my decision but one thing is for sure it really really sucks ass!

My tranny screwed up at 80295 miles... i live in northern Va about 30min. from D.C. in Woodbridge. My car is sitting in front of my house atm...i still have to get the money together to fix the problem...replace the gears...or just plain get a new tranny...im not sure wat i want to do..my friend...

Same thing happen to me and one other guy that i kno of. I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd and when i shifted to 3rd the gear didnt grib or grind....so now my car is stuck in 3rd..and when i place it in neutral it stalls like its still in gear. when i try to drive it in 1st 2nd and reverse my car...

Maybe if im lucky.
