2019-2020 Mazda3 RECALL for faulty Emergency Braking System

Correction: The press and hold of the i-Activsense button to disable SBS procedure was extracted from a 2019 Mazda 3 owner manual and for some reasons the same procedure does not work on my 2020 model year. So I found that to disable SBS in my 2020, I had to first press i-Activsense button (you...

2019-2020 Mazda3 RECALL for faulty Emergency Braking System

There is an i-ACTIVSENSE button that if you press and hold it will disable SBS, but it will also disable everything else including Blind Spot Monitoring.

2019-2020 Mazda3 RECALL for faulty Emergency Braking System

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/12/20/mazda3-recall-emergency-braking/ https://www.cars.com/articles/2019-20-mazda3-recall-alert-415498/ This appears to be serious. Perhaps in the mean time we can disable SBS before the recall fix is in place? I have a 2020 Mazda3 Select sedan and I tried to...

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

Thank you Yrwei52, Sm1ke, Googleplex, & Ceric for your inputs. Yrwei52....I think you made a typo in your response - "Those failures have not been collected by CR until the beginning of 2020"(should be 2019). I think CR did the survey from owners/subcribers of 2019 model year for the predicted...

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

I need help deciding whether to get another Mazda with Cylinder Deactivation I have a 19 CX-5 Touring (wife driving it) and the CD recall was completed in July/19. It drives fine since new. I am in need of another car and currently considering the 2020 3 Base Hatchback or another 2019 CX-5...

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

Yes you can. You need to compare different brands "relatively". For example, compare percent of complaints or defects per total units sold for a given year. For those that want to know, I use the following sites to help me decide what car has the lease number of complaints and what those...

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

So based on 2020 CR Predicted Reliability ranking being #2, does this mean Cylinder deactivation/Rocker arm issue is rare and far in between?

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

Mazda if you are listening....Hurry up and take this CR ranking opportunity and put together some Holiday TV ads - something like a giant GREEN bow on top of all your RED cars, all parked in snow. Your sales figure will definitely improve.

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

I saw on MazdaUSA site earlier this year that they listed out CR ranking of car brands as well as specific Mazda model reliability rating against rivals, but now they are not on the site anymore(wonder why). But your suggestion of "a leading consumer magazine stated...." will work just fine.

    Mazda Ranked Highly by CR

Give me more reasons to buy more cars from Mazda. Unfortunately, most other people are too lazy to do research or brand snobs or just plain stupid. Mazda needs to take this CR rating opportunity to advertise their products and remind people that Mazda still build beautiful driver machines RELIABLY.

    Issues I didn't expect from the new 2019 Mazda3

I am in the same boat as you are, but I will be buying and owning for years instead of leasing. If you lease, the car would be under warranty during lease term and there is no worry of CD failure post warranty like owning one. I would pull the trigger if I were you.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

2020 Mazda CX-5 Press Release mentions CD system display. Now you can see when CD kicks in and out. Wonder if this feature can be implemented on a 18 & 19 CX-5 through a SW update. I was hoping Mazda implement a "CD disabled" button(I know...wishful thinking... Mazda did not put one on 2020 3...

Dealer says no transmission dipstick on 2018 CX5

No transmission fluid change needed for Skyativ engine. Below is from Mazda. http://mazda.custhelp.com/app/answers/list/st/5/page/1 "DO I NEED TO REGULARLY CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IN MY MAZDA? All Mazda vehicles equipped with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY* have lifetime transmission fluid that...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

Good finding Shadonoz. I would very much like to know the total number of CD failures to see how rare or not the issue is, but I guess that number is only internal to Mazda.

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

CD Failure Rate? I have always wondered the failure rate associated with CD that Mazda experienced before decided to issue the recall. I initially made an attempt to calculate the failure rate based on the 26th CD failing vehicles that the dealer told Go Hawks(one who started this thread) back...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

tomsdk....Since you can monitor CD on your car, can you please do a test in Sport mode to see if CD still kicks in under light load?

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

CD can be monitored on a 2019 Mazda 3 https://youtu.be/E93HOqEMteo Looks like you can monitor CD activities on a 19 3 according to this review(See 10:23). Perhaps it works the same for CX-5 that has CD feature. It appears that it can be deactivate/activate way too often. Therefore, more chance...

Dangerous cylinder deactivation trouble on 2018 CX-5 and Mazda6 models

I doubt Mazda disabled CD. That would violate emission footprint they already filed for and the advertised mpg on the window sticker. The mpg difference as some had noticed after the PCM update is more than the difference between CD and no CD. As a reminder: 2017 CX-5 FWD with no...
