Trying to fix a coolant leak

That's a good idea, I'm all for the easy fix. I only need it to last me another month or two. I'd never heard of using oatmeal or pepper, that's incredible. I have no idea how much of an ordeal it is to get to the o-ring or whatever is in there, I don't want to have to disassemble the whole...

Trying to fix a coolant leak

Howdy y'all, I've got a coolant leak coming from behind the thermostat on my '03 P5. You can see it dripping from where the tube goes into the thermostat housing. Is this the bypass tube? Here's a diagram view of the area. I can see the tube on every diagram I can find but none of...

    Coolant leak source?

I had some leftover coolant I've been topping it off with, I've only lost about a quart. It was definitely coolant, I didn't taste lol, it but it was visibly green and smelled sweet.

    Coolant leak source?

I went to make sure the leak was coming from the thermostat this afternoon. Undid the heat shield, turned my car on, waited for it to get up to temp and it wouldn't leak! Drove it home, to the store, not even a drop.

    Coolant leak source?

You're a schematics wizard! I think that's got to be it. Maybe a gasket between the housing and the block? I guess I'll just have to tear into it and see.

    Coolant leak source?

It does! The leak looks like it's coming from (3), looks like the thermostat housing? I think I'm gonna have to take some things apart to really see for sure.

    Coolant leak source?

This morning I noticed a small puddle of coolant near under the passenger side of my engine block, about the size of a loaf of bread after my car had been sitting all night. I drove it to somewhere in the neighborhood, probably 5 minutes total, and when I parked it immediately peed out the same...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Sorry, I forgot to update when I fixed it! In summation, the CEL was being caused by the solenoid I replaced. It hasn't come back on since I replaced it. The engine stutter was a misfire caused by a cracked ignition coil, #4 was cracked and sparking. The jumpy idle is my brake booster leaking...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

I think the jumpy idle might actually be my brake booster dying on me. I'm in the Midwest so it's just now starting to get cold, and I've been hearing hissing when it's cold. I haven't checked it out for certain; burst a hose somewhere on Christmas Eve and I was spraying a small shower of...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

I don't think I've disconnected the battery since I bought it, a few thousand miles ago. Usually when I start it cold it'll Rev up to 2500rpms and slowly make its way down to normal, sometimes revving back up every once in a while on the way down before settling. Sometimes it'll dip as low as...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Okay (2thumbs) thanks for all your help! A dirty injector might make more sense. I've heard mixed things about seafoam but I think I have a can in my trunk, maybe I'll give it a try

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Thank you! My RPMs still waver at start and idle which leads me to belive it could be a vacuum leak or my MAF sensor giving false readings, especially because the misfire only occurs half the time. Is it possible that would cause a misfire only in #3 though? I did get a P0300 code once but it...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

It's been a few days and the codes for either of the solenoids have both stayed off. However I am still getting a cylinder 3 misfire, P0303 I think. I changed all the plugs about 3k miles ago because I was getting a misfire and that fixed it, but now it's misfiring again. I changed the...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Just kidding, I couldn't wait. I threw it in just now, cleared the codes and drove it for about 10 minutes. Nothing came back on right away and she didn't show any symptoms so I'll take that as a good sign but hold off on officially announcing myself in the clear. I'll see if it comes back on...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Also, if there was a leak in the supply I think I'd be having problems from all 3 solenoids, because the VTCS and VICS are definitely on the same line, I can't tell on the PRC. The last time my CEL came on I checked it just for fun and it was only giving me the code for the PRC fault. That was...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Shoot, that's a good idea. Is there one line that feeds both solenoids though?

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Alright, CEL came back on with no change. So I think that rules out the solenoid being bad. It also had a random misfire code with it this time :( I hate surprises. I guess it's time to look at the PRC valve. If it's going out then I'm probably running lean which would definitely explain the...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Just went for a quick spin, no CEL yet but I'm still getting a "stutter" when I give it a lot of gas. I'm getting a new tube coupler for my CAI tomorrow, and now that I think about it spark plug wires and coils might be a good idea. I got a code for a cylinder 3 misfire the other day that went...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Finally found the time to look things over. The vacuum gauge I rented from AutoZone didn't come with any connectors, go figure. So for now I switched the VICS and VTCS solenoids. I'm hoping to see a VICS CEL pop up as opposed to the VTCS one I've been getting, if this is just a faulty solenoid...

Any help with diagnosis? P2009 and P0090 on my 03

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction! I'll check those first. I'd read it could be anything from bad wiring to a dying fuel pump, but if the VTCS solenoid has been known to fail then hopefully that's all it is, especially if you think it could be throwing the other code too. In fact that...
