2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

I got a fast response to my e-mail to Mazda USA. It seems to be a GA issue. 'Thank you for contacting Mazda Customer Experience Center regarding the Emission testing issue. I contacted Mazda of Roswell and spoke to John in service. He states that this is not a Mazda issue, many 2018 brands...

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

I'm hoping it's a GA issue, and that it can be fixed quickly. I'd call your Mazda dealer and find out where they're sending 2018 CX5 vehicles for emissions testing in your area.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

I e-mailed Mazda USA about the issue this afternoon. I'm sure they already know about it, but someone needs to fix it.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

I honestly don't think it's Mazda doing what VW did. I say that for two reasons; firstly because of what happened to VW, and secondly because our 2018 MX5 passed with no problems.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

Ironically, I drove my wife's 2018 MX5 to the emissions station nearest to our house, and it passed with no problem. The issue seems to be only with the 2018 CX5.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

To the best of my knowledge, it's just Georgia.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

No, it's a software issue. Hopefully it will get resolved.

2018 CX5 issue with emissions test

Just an informational post for people who own a 2018 CX5 and who live in the state of Georgia. There is a known issue where the computer software used by many emissions stations in Georgia won't communicate with the software on a 2018 Mazda CX5. After experiencing this at two emissions stations...

Liftgate has a Mind of its Own?

There's a thread on this issue here. https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/index.php?threads/rear-hatch-opening-by-itself.123866016/

How many actual miles on a new car?

The vehicle may have been used for test drives. 61 miles is no big deal. Be happy with your car.

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

I really wouldn't worry about it. This involves a tiny number of people, and of that tiny number, most probably caused the issue by an accidental push of the button. I was curious though, so I called the service manager at my Mazda dealership yesterday afternoon, and he's never heard about this...

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

The only other thing I can think of would be the latching mechanism not closing correctly, even though it appeared to. It would be interesting to know if those having this issue had unloaded from the cargo area and then closed the hatch, and then had this problem. It could be a latch assembly issue.

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

I doubt that. You'd be looking at thousands of complaints. I don't think that the Mazda dealerships are even aware of this issue.

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

I guess if those experiencing this issue have a VIN number in this range...JM3KFxxxxxx700008-820235 produced from September 13, 2019 through March 18, 2020, then that might be a factor. There's so much RF flying around though, my guess would still be something transmitting on the same frequency.

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

I suspect that the number of times that this has happened is tiny and is either due to user error or someone locally transmitting on the same frequency. I don't know where these fobs are in the frequency range, but I'll bet they're close to other devices.

    2020 CX-5 mysterious battery draw

I agree. I own the DBPower 500A jump starter. Thankfully, I've never had to use it on my CX5, but it started my neighbor's Ford F150 with no problem at all.

    Oil change question

I live in the US. I've been using the fixed mileage interval. I've been getting the oil changed every 5,000 miles, but I don't know if the vehicle actually needs that.

    Oil change question

Quick question...My 2018 CX5 (love the car) had its 20,000 miles oil change and tire rotation a few months back. The car had just over 21,000 miles on it at the time. It's running perfectly. Do I need to get another oil change at 25,000 miles, or can I wait until the scheduled Mazda service at...

2017~2024 Rear hatch opening by itself?

It sounds like another car owner in the parking lot is using a fob on the same frequency.
