Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

Was the last D/F done at home or at a shop? Either way, have you checked the fluid level recently? It is one more thing to blame when things go wrong. If it is low, could there be a leak? 😬

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

Well back then I didn't know I could get definitive answers from you eh?! 😱 I make decisions based on the information that I can gather and understand at the time. Without adult supervision, I have made many questionable choices.

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

I am planning to change the filter and reseal the pan in two weeks. Don't want to, but really have to. 🤦 There is a slight leak that I have noticed at the last round of drain/fill. In mid-June I went to a reputable shop for inspection and was told about a leak and several other things. In their...

Vague Transmission Oil Change Recs Vs Common Sense & Reality

I know nothing about whines and a little bit about the fluid. Back in June I realized that the transmission fluid was not refreshed at 60K miles along with the rear diff and transfer case. My memory has failed me. So I started searching and considered the wide-application ATFs that claim to be...

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

I first found out about Idemitsu in 2018 because of their two-stroke oil.

You are correct. I noticed that the top of the report says that most recent sample was from 5w30. Let me check my order history for the August 2019 sample. I usually order oil a few weeks ahead of time. On 3/6/2019 I ordered Zepro Eco Medalist 0w20... It was Zepro (Amazon.com: ZEPRO Eco Medalist...

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

This report from January 2024 shows four samples on the CX-3. Went with Castrol, Pennzoil, Mobil 1, Valvoline as long as they are full synthetic 0w20 (5w30 once or twice). The closest I got to oem was Zepro/Idemitsu when available for under $30 on Amazon in 2018 and 2019. Filter-wise, Bosch or...

I first noticed that about Blackstone in 2020. Sent two separate samples in and heard nothing for weeks. Got the results after I emailed to inquire. After that, I take a picture of the USPS tracking label and email them as soon as the sample is shown as having been delivered. Didn't know about...

A Purist’s Perspective - One Day with the 2024 Mazda CX-5 Signature Turbo

I came across a free scale a few years ago. It was in an industrial neighborhood for a rotary meet on a Saturday afternoon. Apparently weight means a lot for FC and FD bros. The number was displayed on a screen across the street. One FD dude read the display and started taking stuff out from his...

*Unpopular Opinion* I just got greased at the dealer and I don't care

It was a fellow CX-3 owner who was told that the dashboard is involved in replacing the struts. I can handle nuts and bolts but please don't make me dive into wires. 😱 I am not the preferred kind of customer for auto repair. I like to bring my own parts and wait around to watch/learn. Only new...

    Cabin Filter = Gross

A fellow member's recent post inspired me to replace my cabin air filter. It's been 5 years and about 100K miles since the last one. I had to take the glove box out because the filter frame is rigid and pushing against the back of the box. It is dirty all right. Hey the back side looks brand...

*Unpopular Opinion* I just got greased at the dealer and I don't care

New and small indie shops (two lifts, one mechanic) are more flexible with scheduling and ok with my smaller projects. Once they become established/successful in a year or two, scheduling becomes problematic, and I'd move on. The last mechanic did a lot of work on my old Suburban in two years...

I also avoid dealerships. Been hopping from one indie shop to another, and now I am trying to learn and DIY until my hips give up. 🙂

There's not a whole lot of room in the passenger footwell. I will find out tomorrow if I need to do more than getting down on my knees. 😬

Mazda3 doesn't seem to want to start immediately?

Before I got solar for my old Suburban at an off grid spot, I would run the maintainer once a week from a 1000wh power station (that was fed by a 100w solar panel on the roof.) So a portable power station, depending on the capacity, can support a maintainer for at least a few hours. As an avid...

    Should I lower it?

I understand! In my area there's a group of full size minivans on bags, mostly Siennas and Odysseys. Love how they show up at car meets and just sit down. I looked into getting a used Mazda5 now that I am into campers, overlanding, off-grid and etc. Used 5s are hard to come by and not cheap.
