2016~2023 Has anyone tried AutoSock with their CX-9 as a tire chain substitute?

I never noticed that in the manual. I have a 2012 Grand Touring, I've used chains about 2 - 3 times a year (if that) as we don't often get snow in Portland, OR and I don't go looking for snow. I've not had a problem with the chains, but I keep it slow when chained up and use additional tensioners.

2016~2023 Towing capabilities: CX-9 vs Ascent

I am an avid consumer of YouTube videos on RVing and have learnt a thing or two about towing. I have a 2012 CX-5 GT. It did not come with a tow hitch or wiring, but I had these installed at U-Haul not long after I bought it used in 2014. I did this with the intention of mounting a bicycle rack...

Service at dealership or independent shop?

I have a 2012 CX-9 GT that I bought from Carmax in 2014 with 32,000 on the clock. The first service I went to a dealership quite a distance from home because there was a recall to attend to. My experience there was less than satisfactory - they immediately wanted to change all the fluids etc...

Poll Did you choose the CX-9 over a European SUV?

We bought our 2012 CX-9 GT from Carmax in late 2014, it had 32,000 miles and cost around $25,000. We looked at Mercedes Benz and some Big Three cars at the same time, however, we are very happy we chose the Mazda: as far as I can tell, European cars are holes in the road into which one shovels...

2018 cx9 Front bumper sticking out ... suggestions?

I had a similar issue with a rear panel on my 2012 GT, which popped out after I reversed into another car. Later on, I was getting repair work done after reversing into a wall in a parking garage (yeah, yeah), the woman at the body shop bumped the panel back with her hip and it has never popped...

    2009 CX-9 NAV DVD Update

I have a 2012 CX-9 GT with navigation. A couple of years ago we were going on vacation from Portland, OR to Nanaimo, BC and wasn't sure if we'd have good coverage for Apple/Google Maps, so I spent the money and got the latest DVD for the navigation system. The maps for Portland in the DVD were...

    Takata Airbags - 1st Gen CX-9 '07-'12

I had my 2012 airbags replaced under the recall about 18 months ago.

    Trailer hitch

I had one installed on my 2012 CX-9 at U-Haul so I could use a bicycle rack on it. I got the wiring installed as well in the event that I needed to tow a trailer sometime (haven't so far).

    2010 CX-9 2nd row seats don't slide easily

I would use WD-40 Silicone lubricant spray. That is what I use on my vinyl sliders at home and it doesn't affect the vinyl at all. You might also want to clean the tracks if you can.

    Tailgate is pissing me off

Unlock all doors first Make sure all the doors are unlocked. This was annoying me on my 2012 model until I read the manual and realized that you have to unlock all doors before the auto liftgate will actuate. From the drivers position, it means hitting the central locking unlock button before...

    Windshield made of sugar???

We have a 2012 CX-9 GT FWD, 65,000 miles, we've owned it since 2014/32,000 miles. In May of 2017 we were traveling on I-5 S from Seattle and a truck threw up some gravel and we got a chip, had it repaired by Safelite within a day or two. No other problems. We've been lucky in that we haven't...

2018 CX-9 liftgate Window - Does it open independently?

Unless you are a contractor, or someone constantly doing projects, you probably only need this feature occasionally. For those occasions, maybe consider renting a pickup truck at Home Depot for $20. I strongly recommend that you buy the vehicle that suits 90 - 95% of your driving needs, and...

    Trailer Hitch

I had the local U-Haul install my towbar/hitch receiver. While I only intended to use it for a bike rack (and only have used it for a bike rack), I got the wiring harness installed at the same time on the off-chance I might hire a trailer in the future. I don't have many mechanical skills, so I...

Miles to Empty not showing correct mileage after filling fuel tank

I have a 2012 CX-9 GT and get 18.5 - 19.5 city driving (Portland, OR, heavy traffic in evening commute, lots of stop and go), 24 - 25 mpg on the open highway. I measure mpg by noting the odometer and trip meter readings on the fuel receipt and doing the math, I don't rely on the onboard...

    2016~2023 CX-9 Brake Life

I had the front brakes on my 2012 CX-9 GT done at the last service (60,000 miles), rear brakes are good for a long while yet. I have a lot of stop/go driving in heavy traffic, so if you drive mostly highway at highway speeds you should get better mileage. The adaptive cruise control is probably...

    Durability of leather

My 2012 CX-9 GT with 61,000 miles is not showing significant wear in the driver's seat. It looks sat in of course, but there are no holes or anything that suggests it will give out any time soon. The front passenger seat is in somewhat better condition, and the rear passenger seats are pristine...

Upgrading 2010 to Mazda DVD system

If the aim of the exercise is to provide video entertainment to rear seat passengers, you might be better off buying a couple of tablets for them (e.g. Amazon Kindle Fire) - they'll be significantly cheaper. I have Mazda factory navigation and it pretty much sucks. Google Maps and Apple Maps...

cost of brake pad replacement seems high?

I just had my front brake pads replaced at 59,350 miles, the rear brake pads are fine. The cost in Vancouver, WA was USD 577.45 for a 60,000 mile service plus the replacement of the front brakes and wiper blades. I am mostly driving around town and on the freeway.

Mazda CX-9 adds rear seat entertainment system on new and late-model years

Apart from the fact that I almost never have back seat passengers, $2,000 is a lot to spend on rear seat entertainment, especially when you can buy an Amazon Fire tablet from $49.99 to $149.99 - then the user can pick their own entertainment. I drove with one guy about ten years ago who had...

How many miles did the OEM (factory) tires last on your CX-9?

59,350 miles. Replaced with Goodyear Assurance Ultratour from Discount Tire (this model tire is exclusive to Discount Tire). I was inclined toward the OEM or Michelin Latitude, but talking to the rep at Discount Tire, he recommended the Goodyear model as best value for money and perfectly...
