    13b RX7 reliable for autocross?

I autocross an '84 FB with a streetported 12A. The car has been reliable the entire time I've owned it but I don't completely abuse it. I run premix in it and check the oil, coolant, plugs and ignition regularly. I don't find RX7s to be overly unreliable, I just think a lot of people bought them...

    Still have your '93 RX-7?

Rotary 12A engine/casting numbers (Engine ID)

I wouldn't want to attempt a pull start either! I have two spare transmissions I got cheap a few years ago. Maybe check eBay or local junk yards. That's great that you have some MSDs laying around. The distributor does indeed have two pick ups. One for bottom two plugs (leading) and one for top...

Rotary 12A engine/casting numbers (Engine ID)

Banzai racing has a page on their website about starting an old rotary engine. It had some good tips. Idk If the page is still there. May be worth a look. I agree with switching to an electronic ignition though. The MSD boxes hooked to the leading plugs usually performs really well. Its actually...

Rotary 12A engine/casting numbers (Engine ID)

There aren't any huge differences It was just to my understanding that the thermal reactor was phased out later in 1980 and the points phased out early on in 1980 models. That was why I said that. Otherwise it doesn't really matter much. The engine may have been made in 79 as well as actual 1979...

Mazdas247 Mazda of the Month | May

Almost all of my mods came from racing beat. Springs/Shocks/Struts/sway bars/strut tower brace/holley carb/intake/plug wires/header/mid pipe/exhaust. I've been pleased with all of it. Good quality. Go to rotary shack's webpage and check out the weber kit they offer. It looks great and when...

Rotary 12A engine/casting numbers (Engine ID)

From my experience with 12As it sounds like an early 1980 RX7 engine. At least at my best guess. I have a few 12As laying around two from 84, and one from 79. The thermal reactor was ditched for cats after 1980 and points distributor set up was ditched after the 79 model year...I think. So an...

Mazdas247 Mazda of the Month | May

I don't have many RX7 fans to talk to, I'm glad to hear it isn't just me that almost never uses 5th gear unless I'm out on a stretch of highway. I honestly do the same with my Focus ST. I use 6th mostly just on highway/interstate or country straight stretches where I am familiar with the road...

Mazdas247 Mazda of the Month | May

I've got a holley FPR and fuel pump where I've been running a holley 4bbl on my FB. It is all top end though (most rotaries are of course) but I was hoping to add some mid range with side draft and long intake runners.

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Anything new with the truck? I missed the Mazda of the month for May. I would've gladly entered, but was very happy to see a classic rotary get the win.

Mazdas247 Mazda of the Month | May

Congrats buddy. I'm very happy to see a classic RX7 as a winner. I know the pain of building one. Yours looks great and you've definitely get more mods than I do, but I'm getting there. I still have most of the interior in mine but I'm leaning towards gutting it. I'm also leaning towards a side...

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Looking good man. I'm still amazed at how small these engines are in pictures. I had my RX7 out this past weekend drifting it around on the back roads.

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

The smell doesn't bother me either, just my wife lol. Any good brand 2 cycle oil will be fine. And no worries on it running. It will be there soon. Once it is people will take notice when it fires up at those shows!

Do you have another "non-family" car in the driveway? Looking at getting a second car

They do have great resale value, and the engines are generally trouble free, but my Si had recurrent transmission problems and the worst rev hang I've ever experienced. I tried flashpro to fix it. Didn't work. I hated driving that car after I got it. Thankfully I didn't have to keep it long...

How do you like that Si? I had a 2013 and sold it in 6 months. I hated mine.

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Royal purple is a good choice, but as eprx799 said it isn't cheap. You can order it from racing beat online. I have been using valvoline 2 cycle with no issues and I can buy it at auto zone for about 5.50$ a quart. It Does smell a bit. I smell like a dirt bike every time I tweak on my RX7, but I...

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Premix can be a pain to do, but its worth it. I'm sure you already know the benefits. It really does seem to keep a rotary in better happy healthy running condition. Not to mention 2 cycle is meant to be burned, engine oil not so much. And no worries on engine oil getting low from OMP use.

Do you have another "non-family" car in the driveway? Looking at getting a second car

I recently went and drove and checked out the 1.8T and GTI golfs since I put my ST up for sale. I felt the GTI was just in a different league than the 1.8T. Compared to an equivalent base Focus, Civic, Corolla etc... I'd take the 1.8T golf, and I'm sure that engine has room for aftermarket...

Turbo Rotary Mazda B2600i Minitruck Build!

Love to see a video once it is running. Better still I want to hear that rotary come to life. Mine sounds like a chainsaw. Smokes like one too, but mostly just on startup. I premix 2 cycle for my rotary.

Do you have another "non-family" car in the driveway? Looking at getting a second car

Out of the options you feel you have narrowed it to I would suggest the GTI or the Mini. They have nice interiors and are a lot of fun. You can still thoroughly enjoy them as driver's cars when you don't have a client (if you are so inclined.) Regardless what you decide I hope you enjoy it and...
