Where would I hook up the remote wire from stereo on the amp?

Today a friend tried to install the MSP sub to the my MP3? I thought it was going to work b cuz all the wires were there from the mp3 sub so we hooked up the RED and White jacks to the amp then the ground to the amp then the power cord to the amp but when we turned on the the stereo the sub...
