I used autosocks before and they are handsdown 1000x better than chains. Just don't go fast. They slip right on and you will be on your way in 2 minutes while watching others suffer putting on chains. Best part is no possible way it would damage the car like chains do.

Sounds like they just want to charge you for new brakes and not solving the reason it happened and i would have it inspected by another mechanic to see if the brakes really are toast.

That is what they saw initially for me too bc i initially picked black but they double checked and it was just the clamps... but of course i got mine a few weeks ago so it might be something else now.

Did you ask if it is just because of the clamp color? I was told when i bought mine that if i wanted black i would have to wait but the chrome one was readily available. So i went with chrome. Not a big difference imo.
