I'm able to get it open by just giving it slight pressure upwards, after pulling the cable. I didn't hear it release but it did.
Any one have info or write ups on replacing the broken latch? Only saw something on a Mazda3, nothing on the CX vehicles on my search.

My 2018 CX9 GT has a broken hood latch. Went to check the oil etc the other day and when I pulled on it, I heard the spring recoil and the latch has no play. The hood is still in the lock or closed position, can't get my finger in.

Really easy to cross thread as the angle is a bit tough, even using your fingers to start. Not sure how others managed this but if it doesn't go in right away, walk away from it for a half hour and regroup -- worth it to be patient with the thing.

They were serviced by the dealer, I think they swapped them around and re greased etc to get extra life out of it. Didn't think it was that bad until I started hearing the metal pins rubbing..
I ended up going with Z23s all the way around with new rotors as well. I was at the 120k km mark. First time the fronts were being changed, the rears were changed before at about the 60k km mark. The fronts were also completely done!!

To be clear, the bolt broke off before it was 1/4 way in, likely was broken but left for me to find as I had no torque using a 4 inch 🔧.
