I would do a couple engine flushes or the diesel oil with diesel fuel that I'm currently doing before your smoking gets as bad as mine. I'm due for change 3 of 3. I wish I had done this last time I owned it and maybe it wouldn't be this bad now.

Did you happen to disconnect the battery for any of that work? That can cause a really rough idle but it wouldn't cause the CEL... Did you gap your spark plugs? May be worth checking fuel pressure and looking for vacuum leaks.

I didn't have any problems, I was able to watch the piston as I slid it back down and I still had a nice gap.

After driving yesterday the passenger was only about 20 F hotter than the driver front, so I guess I can return caliper. 🙂
