The Subaru Legacy is now 4 years old; add another 1.5 years for the release of the 2023 model Mazda CX-5. A 6 year old vehicle is not old or unsafe. If the current vehicle is properly maintained and not giving you any headaches, I'd say squirrel away a few more nickels until the 2023 model...

I really don't think the caps are there for a water seal.. just a beauty cover. Yes the water is coming out from there.. but if the water is coming FROM there.. it means there is a path (hole) for water to get inside the door before this spot.

VW used car software to detect emission testing and ran parameters that defeated the testing, then ran another set of parameters during normal operation. My thought is that the one emission testing center that is working -- could simply be too old / too new for Mazda to detect. Just a thought.
