Anyone tracking all the talk about Group III base oil shortages?

Canadian Tire has Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on sale for $43 a jug, sale ending today. On top of that, Pennzoil Canada is running a promotion for a $30 Prepaid Mastercard whenever you buy 10L of qualifying Pennzoil motor oil at participating locations. I picked up 4 jugs just now, and will be...

Mazda Telematics - What is it?

It may simply be a case where they cannot permanently disable the TCU component on the car remotely, so instead, they send a signal to tell the TCU to disconnect, then Mazda puts a "block" on the line that the TCU would normally connect to if Connected Services was enabled. So even if you...

    2017~2025 CX-5 Headlight & High Beam Projection

It is technically possible to replace parts of the headlights. However, it's usually not done because the components that may need to be replaced will cost almost as much as a replacement light. You'd be better off replacing the whole assembly instead of having to separate the lens from the...

What have you done to your CX-70/90 today?

Looks great! Have you already checked tire pressures on the 70? When I took delivery of my 2018, they skipped that part of the PDI and I had to air them down to the recommended 34-36 psi (they were at almost 50). Maybe your dealer did the same?

    2017~2025 CX-5 Rear Differential Failure

Not to defend Mazda, but I wouldn't say this is "common". I also had to have the rear diff replaced on my 2018 CX-9 at 113k kms in Feb 2025. Like you, I tried to maintain the vehicle as well as I could. Before the failure happened to me, I had seen only one other report of rear diff failure...

Gen 3 CX-5: Owners Chime In

Could be a difference in the seat bottom height, or even the seat bottom itself. If the Gen3 seat compresses more than the Gen2 seat, that could account for the feeling of more headroom. Maybe the Gen3 has the driver's seat a little bit further away from the windshield, too?

A reminder to run Top Tier fuel and avoid cheap gas

A minimum detergency fuel is a fuel that meets only minimum government standards. I think that's what they're referring to, which I assume are fuels from places like Esso, 7-11, Circle-K, or other smaller stations. I found this CR article that shows the difference in intake valve build up...

    2017~2025 Sluggish performance CX-5 2.5L

Do you have a different Mazda dealer that you can take your car to? If not, I would escalate the issue to the Service Manager, and if they are no help, contact Mazda Corporate for your region to escalate the issue further. It sounds like your current dealer is either very lazy or very...

    2026 Mazda CX-5: Who’s actually getting one?

Yes, it is. This reminder was posted on the first page. Once again, this thread is to discuss the 2026/Gen 3 CX-5. It is not to discuss the Gen 1 or Gen 2 CX-5, or talk about why you're not buying a Gen 3. We have plenty of discussion threads that already exist for those topics. Let's keep...

    Obsessive compulsive car care habits

I do this too. I never used to, but my wife has a habit of driving her Civic into a steep driveway, putting the car in Park and then taking her foot off the break just as it goes into Park. A couple of times I'd take her car, and it took more effort to pull the shifter out of Park, and when I...

What have you done to your CX-9 today?

So when I had the rear diff failure on my 2018, I attributed it to a manufacturer's defect/error. I can't prove it, but it is possible that the fluid level in the rear diff was "low" as many report that they had to fill more than they drained out. When I did drain the fluid, it was after the...
