depends on where you go, and out of all the years owning my car i have never had that full type of inspection, 2002 and up is no cel and you get a sticker, anything under that gets the tail pipe test

Cracks is what your looking for, but just give a visual look over literally spread each hump apart and check for hair line cracks, I had the same problem and this and the connector for the crank shaft sensor was bad
even with out a cel on put a scanner on it and check anyway you might have a stored code that doesn't need a cel on, also if you have the stock intake hose and filter box you may want to begin checking there, check the accordion looking part of the intake tube
