I never used it but I’m sure it was worth the hype. 3M makes some fantastic stuff. I’m guessing their pivot away from it could’ve been due to it containing PTFE or something. Their data sheets state they didn’t knowingly add PFAS/PFOA but I’m guessing there’s something in the proprietary...
I believe this product was discontinued. I fell down a rabbit hole looking for an alternative. Closest I could find is possibly Molykote 111 if you’re seeking a general use silicone “paste”. Temperature range is close to 3M product, supposedly safe for many materials.
No, I’d go with a grease that is specific to brake applications. That will ensure the rubber doesn’t swell up or crack due to incompatible grease. I’ve used both CRC and Permatex and they worked great.
Great choice! I had similar wants when I was shopping for a used truck (except gas mileage, I needed it for towing so that was written off lol). I initially was looking for Ram 1500 classics but stumbled on the 2nd gen Titan. V8, no electric motor assist, no stop/start, gas engine without all...
I had fun leaving a brief review on a Mercedes C300 diesel rental we had on vacation in Scotland, figured I’d do it again for a 2025 Rogue we rented in Canada. We could choose any car available in the garage by checking in ahead of time via Alamo. There were only two midsize SUVs available when...
Leave it to German engineering to make a key like device and selector switch to drain and set your fluid level! Thank god Amazon has a cheap kit to actuate the drain plug.
Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Couldn’t agree with you more on the “sealed” comment being a great red...
That’s the trick, finding a competent shop you can trust. I think we saw a poster here some years back say their mechanic “flushed” their transmission when really their invoice charged 4 quarts of FZ fluid. It was a drain and fill. Sell services like that, couple it with some dealerships that...
That's normal. The transmission pan bolts are fastened kind of loose vs any other bolt on your vehicle. If you use a torque wrench you'll need one capable of measuring inch pounds. I can't remember the exact spec but it's in the ball park of 70-90 inch pounds. Double check the bolt spec for your...
No problem! I don’t have calipers handy so these are rough measurements with an old metric ruler. The diameter of the hex head is 10mm. Length of the bolt is 15mm from bottom of head to end of body. Theres 2mm of body length between the head and thread for the washer. The threaded section is...
That’s great that some aftermarket mounts are available. They weren’t a thing when I replaced my rear shocks at least 5 years ago.
Based on the vehicle mileage and rust, ehh…, I’d probably suck it up and pay to get the rear shocks replaced altogether. I know one mount is broke but might as well...
You’ve done some cool stuff souping up that CX-5 in a short time though!
Here’s a pic of the old pan bolts. I held onto them for some reason for a rainy day. Two on the top were original and the one on the bottom is a new spare. Old me would’ve saved a few bucks and cleaned them with a wire...
Great thread! I never noticed a change in transmission behavior on my old ‘13 2.0L. It performed great it’s whole life when I did 3 drain and fills at 50k miles, and 3 drain and fills with a pan drop and filter change at 100k miles. I used RTV to reseal the pan without issue. I didn’t plan to...
Not too different than those $50-75 HVAC “tune-ups”. Hard to find a reputable company that isn’t going to come out and try to sell you a whole new HVAC system or unneeded repairs. Really nice coupon OP received, I’d love to get one just to use on cheaper maintenance items for DIY
Possibly two different issues. Have you had the windshield replaced? I’m wondering if the rain/light sensor on the windshield fell off. That caused my mother in laws ‘18 to dim the displays during the day. You can override this setting in the infotainment by choosing day instead of automatic...
That’s quite telling with back of the napkin statistics. Leaving the transmission alone with the factory fill likely results in a lot less failures than servicing with non-FZ fluid. I imagine the majority of people aren’t touching the factory fill of transmission fluid, so to hear more than half...
