I don't have an answer for your question, but want to give you a heads up on something I read about these adjustable rear arms. At least some versions require the rear wheel to be removed to make adjustments. Understandably, this would annoy the alignment tech and can result in a service that...
Hopefully you can spot damage, but I wouldn't count on it. If, say, the control arm mounting point shifted 1/4-inch, it might not be apparent. As far as availability, there has to be a 1st-gen Mz5 that was rear-ended, t-boned, or has a blown engine/transmission sitting in a junkyard somewhere...
I'm curious how the adjuster is determining that the out-of-spec caster is the result of a previous accident?
I agree, the damage is likely isolated to the control arm or subframe. I'd swap control arm first and check alignment. If unchanged, then get a good used subframe and, when trying to...
Drain and filled the ATF for the first time in the car's life, I'm sure, at 52k miles. Drained exactly 4 quarts and put in 4 quarts of Valvoline Max Life. I come from the VW world where an ATF you buy at Wal-mart that is compatible with 10 different makes is avoided at all costs so it felt...
Very cool. I hadn't considered doing this to the 5, but now I am. Couple questions;
Is the fully open position higher than stock, lower, or about the same?
Does the hood take a decent amount of muscle to begin to close when starting from fully open?

I'd be surprised if a somewhat dirty filter would solely cause a CEL. Assuming you cleared the light manually, I expect it to come back on. If it stays off, then something else might be on the verge of failing and a dirty filter might be making just enough difference for the computer to wave a...

I'll be making a trip to the dealer soon anyway so I'll get it then.
Sounds like the mass airflow sensor. Remove it and spray some mass airflow sensor cleaner (nothing else) on the element that protrudes down into the air stream and reinstall. Clean the intake and check for vacuum leaks while you're at it. Reset the computer by disconnecting both battery...
What's the maintenance/repair split on that dollar amount? Factoring in maintenance isn't really fair unless the vehicle has short intervals, takes exotic fluids, or simple things like oil changes require a shop visit.
I saw a DIY somewhere here but can't find it now. Once the switches are removed, it's one large opening with tabs that require some trimming, then I think the ScanGauge-E is a light press fit. I'm not sure if the trimming keeps you from being able to put the switches back in at a later date.
