Well since the bracket holding the front bolts rusted completely off and the back nuts have to come off... I don't need to worry about that weird sized one. Which is good because 17/32 = 13.5mm. Amazon and ebay didn't have any 17/32 deep sockets.
I'll have to get under their later this week...
So, got some issues with rust and where the bolts attach has rusted off and I have a leak...
I was able to 'crack' all the bolts.
Well... broke this one off...
Whomever put this on put a different sized nut...
in between 13mm and 14mm ... ???
Is this nut supposed to come off? Or is it...
So, I have some fairly extreme vibration from the front.
- Shocks are fairly new and everything seems tight.
- Does not seem to be any sticking brake calipers
I put the car up on jack stands and ran it up to 35mph.
The left wheel rotates slower than the right wheel.
1) Is this normal?
2)...
On the LX....
307k miles
Oil change 5w40
New front motor mount
new right rear brake light bulb
oil consumption was 3 qts over 4500 miles since the last oil change
Just keeping it alive as long as I can.
Carfax def doesn't show everything. But... if it does show a T-Belt change then you can be reasonably sure that it was done at the indicated time. Plus, it can show where the car was serviced and you can call them and find out more info.
Just one of the tools you can use.
If you run a carfax it may show maintenance, particularly the timing belt.
If you don't have an OBDII scanner, get one. These cars tend to have various emissions issues. The most common ones are easy to fix and easy to figure out what is wrong if you know the code that is causing the CEL.
If...
Just did this today. Pretty good write-up.
Some things to note...
1) get some hose clips in case you can't re-use the ones you have.
2) when putting your hose clips back on 'seat' them in the indentations of your hose. This will keep it tighter.
3) Those smaller hoses on the bottom are for...
I believe I need to replace the drum on the rear for my LX.
This guy...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rRViAdCkGQ
mentions that you can put a bolt in the extra hole on the drum to force the drums off.
I have 300k on this car and it is very rusty. I expect the drums will be very difficult to...
Coil Pack is a Standard Motor Product (so not OEM, not sure if it qualifies as 'cheap generic') it was replaced due to throwing a code. Several months later I got a code again and since the spark plugs were due to be replaced in a couple of thousand miles I replaced them with NGK Platinum...
What I have done...
1) traded both coil packs with my other P5.
2) Cleaned the MAF, checked the air intake hose after the MAF for cracks, and checked for Vacuum leaks as best as I can.
3) can of seafoam in gas.
4) pulled a single spark plug. It looked good, a very little oil around the top...
Not guessing. I am looking at the mazda protege service manual and the 24 step procedure for p0300 and the number of possible causes that are listed.
You may be correct that this code will not re-occur or that an additional code will surface. But until then I'd like some help in narrowing the...
Yes, well aware that p0300 is a generic code and a starting point for diagnostics.
Other than clearing the code and doing a drive cycle do you have any other suggestions for diagnostics?
The service manual mentions CKP Sensor and CMP sensor as possibilities. Where are these and what do they...
Got a p0300 today. No other codes.
Plugs and wires have been recently replaced. One of the coil packs has also recently been replaced.
I am not sure what it could be I've always gotten a 301 or 302 and not the generic 300.
Any ideas?
Correct. Again if you have an OBDII scanner you can check to see if all the OBDII checks have completed or if some are still pending. If they are still pending then your ECU is trying to do all the checks and tune your car for its condition.
You can speed this up by running the Mazda Drive...
Ended up using the Monroe quick struts. Some notes on the install for the next person...
Good video here...
1) One of the top bolts sticks out further than the others, so you will need a 14 mm deep socket to remove that one.
2) My quick struts came with new nuts for the top bolts. But...
Well, I do have the sportronic.
Install wasn't that bad. Didn't really have to adjust anything once I slapped it on. Shifted through the gears about 50 times. So far no issues.
