So this is a comedy of errors... Learn from my mistakes so you don't have to learn from yours... And ALWAYS trust your gut when you know you've done a proper diagnosis.

So I blew the engine in our new family hauler, a 2018 Mazda CX-9.
New engine has to come from...
The stock Ecopia 422s were very squirrley in the wet, especially after getting down to half tread life. I'm more pleased with the Michelins in the wet.
I've had them for over a year and some 40K miles on the Ford Excursion. They do well, though it is a heavy truck.
I haven't had them on the CX-9 long enough to verify the performance in snow; Just had them installed this past spring.
Well, I have a new lawn ornament until I can sort a few interesting electrical quirks out... But the chassis is rust free and the engine and tranny operate properly. What more can you expect for $2000 offa CraigsList/Facebook Marketplace.
Here's the rub... As far as I can tell this thing SHOULD...
Considering that I have owned a Mazda in some way or another since I got my first car at 18 and I'm now near 40, I still have faith in the brand.
What can I say.

One of my 1985 and my 1986 RX-7s both have around 200K well flogged on miles on them as as far as I can tell, they're on their original engines, trannies, and the 1986 is on its original clutch... I got them with extensive paperwork.
They require clean oil and as far as I can tell, they had the...
Speaking as the owner of several RX-7s and as a Moderator over at the RX-7 club, the rotary got a bad rap from people who abused and neglected it.
Its problems are not a build quality issue, but rather a complete failure of it's inherent design and the laws of physics.
I still love those damn...
I've got Michelin Defender LTXes on both my CX-9 and my Ford Excursion.
Great long wearing tire.
Problem is that they're highway tread. They absolutely blow goats on any terrain that's not road. I can get stuck on wet grass.
Currently on the phone with Mazda USA Corporate. Mazda is aware that this is a systemic issue affecting some 2019 and earlier 2.5L Skyactiv Turbo engines.
This past weekend's project was hauling it into the dealership for a full on engine replacement.

I wouldn't touch a Nissan with a 10 ft pole after seeing that they put CVTs in everything.
CVTs can't handle abuse.
As far as towing with the CX-9, see my thread here:

I have several trailers that I tow on occasion...
I had the Duratec 3.0L V6 in my 2003 Mazda MPV minivan that sadly got scrapped once and then a second time at just over 200K miles with no leakage to speak of.
It's the weird one with the water pump driven off a belt on the camshaft, right?
Same issue, the A/C evaporator drips onto the front...
So my 2018 Mazda CX-9 is at the dealer for an engine replacement under warranty.
Due to supply chain issues following COVID, I may be forced into a rental for an extended period of time.
My driving habits are incompatible with most rental agreements.
We have kids and dogs. (Kids and dogs will...
I also let the engine cool down after a hard run. (And I worked that b**** pretty hard.) It seems that it is a casting issue in the engine block and/or cylinder head.
The cooling of a turbocharger is directly related to coking of the oil on the fluid bearing of the turbo.
