good info to know, thanks for sharing 4wardmotion! I'll keep an eye out for any clogged drains,
maybe do a quick check every 2 weeks just to be safe. the CX-9 drain get clogged way too easily!
Agreed, even my old 2005 Highlander had the 2nd row middle seatbelt without the seat belt hanging from the ceiling,
not sure why Toyota moved away from that and started hanging the seatbelt up to the ceiling
sorry for confusion,
yes, I meant 2, if one tire gets a flat that is un-repairable, then it's best to have 2 new tires on the same axle to wear evenly.
if the tire is repairable (i.e. nail that can be removed and plugged) , then can disregard this.
if tire is un-repairable (i.e. damaged...
Agreed. Cargo area does look deeper than current model. The current center cargo flap panel (the one hiding the tire iron tool and rotation nut to let the spare wheel down) is not as long as the one shown in the picture, the current one is maybe 3/4 of what the new one is. Agree that would...
Hi kornholio, my knowledge in this new Ford explorer clutch system is limited but I would think yes, it is better. From what I understand the explorer system only engages when slippage is detected and is normally off which means better gas mileage and less wear and tear.
The CX9 transfer case...
according to this link, the new Explorer doesn't have a transfer case:
http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748703727804576017951373275340
see ebay link below and scan thru the applicable Ford model numbers that use the same CX-9 transfer case,
the one with the MOST problem is the Ford...
this CX-9 is unique to say the least, nice paint job on the color matching bumpers and trim
didn't know they made an aero kit for the CX-9 (under the front and rear doors) and under the front bumper
Agreed eskimo! definitely would make life easier, but waaaaaaay above my mechanical skills.
also, downside is that the whole PTU has to be taken out which is not an easy job without a lift.
I don't recommend drilling the PTU while still attached to the vehicle
(i.e. metal shavings from the...
"hidden" projector foglight in 2016 CX-9 ?
nice touch, I know it's not really "hidden" per se but I wouldn't even have noticed it, until he pointed it out in the video (0:47 mark)
looks like a Hella DE foglight, I've seen them in BMW 3 series and older X5's, you can stick an HID kit in...
This is just my theory, so take it with a grain of salt. I think the clogged water was there for a while and if the AC system is not used on a regular basis, it just wasn't noticed until your dad noticed the blower was dead. The clogged water must have been there for some time to corrode the...
you're very welcome Odrapnew, I'm glad it went well with no hiccups,
with only 8 oz of old oil recovered, sounds like you caught it in time before the winter season,
good to have fresh oil especially when it's cold.
After seeing the goop and sludge yourself, I bet you're now a firm...
Hi Pete,
yes, I've used the Kool_it with good results to get rid of the mildew smell,
I couldn't get the Kool-It tube thru the drain tube at the undercarriage,
so I fed the Kool-It thru the fan blades below the cabin air filter,
but I think the vacuum method will work better for you...
couldn't agree more,
also, there is no such thing as lifetime oil !! I don't care what Mazda says,
here's my maintenance schedule that's gotten me to ~80,000 miles with no problems:
engine oil: every 6,000 miles
transfer case: every 10,000 mile or less
transmission fluid: every 30,000...
sorry to hear of your troubles, the problem definitely seems to be downstream of the air filter, so changing the air filter won't do anything
a couple of questions,
1) did you buy an official OEM Mazda blower unit or the alternate one on Amazon ?
maybe take out the blower you installed and...
yep, same here for a 2013 CX-9 advanced key, had to keep replacing the 2025 batteries
I switched to a 2032 battery and it has lasted over a year now,
it fits just as well as the OEM 2025 battery
just FYI -

video of removing transfer case plug
hello fellow CX-9ers,
I received a lot of private messages asking me for a video of how to get to the CX-9 transfer case plug using the "crossover" method,
it turned out to be a really nice 60 degree day so I figured I change the transfer case oil @...
Just a thought, might not be a flat key issue but perhaps BCM (Body Control Module) problem, infamous on CX9s with sunroofs, do you have a sunroof? if the sunroof didn't drain properly, the BCM gets soaked and shorts.
Search BCM, you'll see.
Whoa, sorry to here about your troubles, just some suggestions and comments, see below:
1) are you sure 2007-2009 headlights are the same as 2010 ? I believe the 2007-2009 headlights have a visible black plastic trim, see below:
2) if you want to try to reseal, I have done this in the...
I think you're right SHCX-9, dang never imagined it would be a full blown job just to get to the rear shock nuts !! see below
TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION link has links to procedures "a" to "f" which includes taking out the 3rd row seats, this is crazy, I wonder how much dealer...
