Brake cleaner on new rotors
Just a tip for brake newbies. If you do end up buying new rotors, they typically come coated with oil to prevent rust. Thoroughly clean the rotors with brake cleaner before installing. For most DIY people this is obvious but I have heard of newbies missing this step.
I use a hockey puck (heavy rubber) as a protector/adapter for my floor jack. Some other items that may come in handy:
- tire compressor/inflator that plugs into 12 volt cigarette lighter
- jumper cables
- anti-freeze tester
- telescoping magnetic pick up tool (for screws and nuts that you drop)
If it was me, I would buy two Toyos. Have the America's Tire guy determine which of your three remaining tires is most worn and replace that one. Then put the two new tires on the rear.
When I took delivery of my 2017 CX-5, I asked the dealer about the missing "tow hooks". Dealer said that Mazda no longer included them because they were shipping eyelets that owners were mistakenly using for tow hooks. The eyelets were fine for holding the car on a flat bed but if you tried to...
I had a similar experience with a Toyota years ago. After service, the car ran like sh*t. Turns out the mechanic had overfilled the oil! Check your dipstick.
I too live in the Triangle area. I took my Mazda CX-5 to Southern States Mazda in Raleigh about a month ago for its first oil change. I inspected the work and saw no issues. You may want to give them a try. I had an appointment and waited less than a hour for the service. People were courteous...
New review of 2018 CX-5 on edmunds.com. I'm impressed that he picks up on the front USBs being underpowered. Most reviewers miss that.

I have never heard any brake squeal on my 2017. I suggest you take it back to the dealer and ask them to lube the caliper pins and the back of the pads.
Does it make sense to replace the incandescents with the OEM LED bulbs that are used in the GT. Would it not be plug and play? Does anyone know the Mazda part number and cost?
I have the 2017 Touring and am happy with the leatherette. I think the LuxSuede being a fabric helps keep the seat ventilated and comfortable. I also like the low maintenance compared to leather.
Thanks isketerol. Nice looking console trim but not what I am looking for. I want to replace all of my piano black trim with trim that matches the dark silver plastic trim on my Touring dash.
I dislike the piano black trim in my 2017 CX-5 Touring. I came across this set of window switch trim pieces on ebay.
1) Anyone else purchased these? If yes, are you happy with the fit and finish?
2) Does the color match the dark silver dash trim of the Touring?
3) Do you know if there is a...
I'm curious. If you want the rear A/C vents and the button on the door handle, why not opt for Touring instead of Sport. If you drop the pinstripe and door edge guard, pricing difference is not huge. Also, on the standard stereo, I found the bass to be muddy as well. Lowering the bass settings...
I'd buy one! In general, I prefer wagons to SUVs. They typically are more aerodynamic and handle better. If it was based on the Mazda6 chassis and had the 2.5T, I'd sign on the dotted line.
