Plus 1 one preventative maintenance paying dividends with the trans. Mine is one of the higher mileage 5s on here at 208k and it drives like a nearly new car. Mine is a first year (2006) with the 4 speed auto BTW and I do occasionally beat on it like a rented mule lol Oh, and welcome!
I feel the 5 is one of the most engaging "family friendly" vehicles out there. The fact that they can be had for relatively little money, they enjoy a modest amount of aftermarket support, and they take miles like something in a much higher price bracket (at least for me they have) is sweet sweet...
This is my second 5, and the auto trans damps down the "enthusiasm" more than a little bit. My first was a stick and i drove that one like i had just robbed a bank lol
I do, but honestly I doubt I will spend any money to add them at this point. I have had the car nearly three years and it hasn't suffered any sort of catastrophic failure due to the shields being gone. I also seem to recall that the shields can cause some heartache and pain when it comes time...
Very used, had 110k on it when i got it at auction. The front brakes have never really been right, until i replaced the rotors.
I can't believe i never noticed the shields were gone, not even when i replaced the struts a while back...
16's? Stock? I thought pretty much all the 5s came with 17" wheels. And clearing snow in the last week of October is why I will never live any further north than I do right now, screw that action man! LOL
I doubt you would recoup the cost of the leather seats in resale value on a 5. They aren't exactly in high demand on the used market, sad to say. If, however you dig and think it would be cool, or more comfy, then go for it. But performing any modification looking to increase resale value is...
Holy crap! I just now realized that my car has no dust shields of any kind in place! I was looking at the pics going, "How come I don't remember bashing my knuckles on that stupid dust shield?" Turns out its because they aren't there. That can't be good all else being equal...
I tried to grab it with needle nose pliers, a flexible four prong grabber thingy, my fingers, a telescoping magnetic pick-up, and a pencil with some double face tape on one end, all to no avail! The damned toggle is big enough and the hole in the pan is small enough that it just doesn't wanna...
And we now see why Mazda was so reluctant to begin selling the new 6 diesel here in America, the land of the drive-through lawsuit LOL. To the OP, sorry I can't be more help, but I wouldn't want
to keep a car with known issues that aren't getting fixed.
Cancel the alert! I never got around to installing the Fumoto on my car, this is the OE drain plug that stripped the threads in the oil pan. I removed the OE plug after it began to leak and replaced
it with a Vatozone el cheapo toggle bolt quick fix. It was the quick fix toggle bolt that...
I was going to go Speed3 brakes also but I ran out of time to save up the dough! I had to get the brakes working properly before winter sets in, and hadn't saved up enough yet (dammit) Maybe in the spring when I replace the rear rotors and pads. Sigh, stupid adult responseabilities, stupid...
Sad to say, it'll have to wait until I change the oil again at 210K. I tossed the remains of the old toggle bolt AND the filthy dirty K&N in the trash that got picked up this AM. I will take some pictures of the threads in the oil pan, because I need some input on just how to proceed. I would...
Completed a rather epic oil change today that i started yesterday. The toggle bolt oil drain plug i was
using broke in half leaving the toggle trapped in the pan. Sourced a replacement plug and VERY carefully
installed it. Also put in a new K&N filter, the old one was at 100k and was badly...
Does Illinois freak out if you stack them on top of one another? Davicho, that is a funny coincidence, given I've been needing to do the job for something like three months. I did steel wool the hubs and paint them with Rustoleum Rust Reformer in the hopes of staving off future rust. Although...
