That's pretty cool. I think that this was the movie which ran twitchy on my comp though... Pentium 350 will do that to ya....
AutoX looks like TONS of fun! What classes you folks run in?
Would you folks say the car is "sporty"?
I sat in my friend's Acura 1.7EL and it had 130hp and 122lbs/ft, which is close to the Mazda Protege.
I found acceleration to be "mild" to my tastes... then again, my friend has a heavy pedal foot, but he was not revving it way up there (which I may end...
I was thinking of putting on an MSP body on a Protege ES or Protege 5.
First, is this possible?
and most importantly, would that push me out of stock class and into street prepared for autocross?
Take them to the AutoX course.
And spank 'em. Spank 'em good.
MP5 is a handling machine. If you do get that turbo, you'll be kicking some major .... major... ah, ya know.
I'm just wondering about reliability... is it still Japan made?
Cuz I think if it's a joint venture, then parts will come from all over... may not have that same japanese workmanship quality.
That's just my prediction.
Hmm.. cuz I'm looking at other threads and guys are talking about blowing engines and stuff.
And talking in car clubs, a lot of people are telling me that it's a TON of hassle and TOO expensive to be justified...
Suggestions please :P
Another thing.
Is there any special tuning that's required after putting on a turbo bolt-on kit?? New header, camshafts, pistons... anything?
Or does it just work with the stock engine without and find tuning other than the stuff that comes with the turbo kit?
I guess the reason I'm looking into this is because P5s are really abundant, and with the new Mazda 3 coming in, there'll be quite a few ready to sell for "cheaper".
Was thinking then it'd be "cheap" to turbo my car because the actual cost of my P5 or Protege ES would be cheaper (since they'd...
Just kinda looking at the Mazda Protege cuz I'm hoping it's "easy" to modify and make your own?
The turbo idea seems like something I'd do as a long-term project, that's all. Pick up a used car and do some "modding"... and Protege's seem quite abundant.
Me? I drive a 1985 Toyota Corolla Sedan, FF configuration (287,395 clicks and still clickin') :D :D
<I'm on this board to do research on the Mazda Protege line... which might become the Mazda 3 line?>
In regards to hearing the Mazda in WCTC was highly modified, I read it in Car and Driver...
(headbang) Werd.
I know the P5 isn't all that powerful, which is why I'm wondering about modding.
Is the drivetrain perfectly suited for modding? Like, would putting on a turbo destroy your axles, like on some other cars?
In regards to Subaru vs Mazda P5 for autoX, the Subaru's MSRP and Mazda P5's MSRP is only about 2000 dollars in difference.... which IS quite a huge gap, now that I think about it. And I DO know that the base model Impreza is a hard-to-get car. Are you saying that Subaru would start adding tons...
