Here was my original post. And it was at 28K miles not 32K:

There is an issue with 2018 CX5 coming out of the factory with defective rear shocks that fail prematurely (but not the front) Our rear shocks needed to be replaced at ~32K miles.
Our powertrain warranty on our 2018 CX5 will expire in a few weeks also. They need to extend the warranty on these engines like Mazda did years ago on their rotary engines. Glad to hear they covered most of the cost for you.
How many miles on your CX5?
Since this issue may become more of a problem as time goes on and affect more owners, pinning may be a good idea.
We are seriously considering replacing our 2018 CX5 once the powertrain warrantee is up but can't seem to find one with the same style and drive as our CX5. If you find something...
That makes a lot of sense. Mazda would only supply these "loaded heads" if a significant number of heads have had to be replaced, or are expected to fail.
I'm surprised this defect has not resulted in an engine fire yet. Engine exhausts can reach a temp of 1000 F, and motor oil can ignite at...
I thought there was but all I can find is a TSB about cracked heads in the 2.5 Turbos resulting in coolant leaks. And, there is a general TSB about how to replace the head if needed in non-turbo CX5s. But nothing addressing the issue of the head cracking and leaking oil. Have I missed it??
Please let us know what happens with this! Did you have to pay for the repair?
Our 2018 CX5 is like yours....36,500 miles and our warrantee expires this summer. Car is fine now but concerned with the potential of the head cracking and a big repair bill!
I believe all the reports of the cracked head on here were from CX5s that were still under warrantee. (correct me if I'm wrong). But over at NHTSA, I noticed 1 or 2 reports of it happening out of warrantee and Mazda sticking the owner with the bill. Pathetic considering its a known build defect...
Guess I spoke too soon! What I do now is routinely run my hand behind the engine looking for oil especially after a long trip.
Bad news is my powertrain warrantee expires this summer!
Its encouraging that there have not been new posts of people having this issue. Hopefully its a very small % of CX-5's effected. But it would be useful if we knew if there was a common thread for the cars that have this issue.
Like, were those CX5s with the cracked head driven on rough roads...
