100% Correct! That is why it is important, as I posted above, to file a complaint with NHTSA if you have the crack & oil leak.

YES! Everyone that has their cylinder head crack needs to report it to the NHTSA. Mazda needs to cover this repair even after the warrantee expires.
It's a clear factory defect and IMO a safety issue. Correct me if I am wrong, but can't oil leaking on a hot engine cause an engine fire...
The real concern to me is in 2023 many 2018 engine warrentees will be done, so owners wlll be stuck paying for the repair. And going forward, it makes sense this issue will become more common and drain the pockets of owners.
Since Mazda knows this is a manufacturing/quality defect they should...
My Blind Spot system seems to be working fine so since it uses the same sensor as the RCTA system, I guess the rear traffic alert is just for traffic and not people.
So, I went into the Settings and turned the Safety/Radar control systems off and then back on. That seemed to do it (testing in the parking lot, the car alerted me when a car was passing behind).
But, it still does not alert if a person is behind the car but come to think of it, it never did...
Hello. Today I noticed that as I was pulling out of a parking space I did not get the usual alert when a car passed behind me. Tested it at home with having someone walk behind as I was in reverse and no alert. The rear camera works fine.
Has this happened to others? Is it common for the rear...
What I really don't understand is how this is not a safety issue that would require a recall. Hot oil dripping on a hot engine as you drive could cause an engine fire, no?
Our engine warrantee on our 2018 expires summer 2023. Your idea of having a third party check now for micro-cracks is an interesting one! Mazda should lengthen the warrantee on this issue past 5 years since it's a factory defect and not normal wear and tear.
Thats good to know but I always wonder when dealers say this if they are being truthful. However, usually the response is " you're the first one we have ever seen", so maybe your service manager is being upfront.
Update: Recall done for the fuel pump. They had our CX5 for 2 hrs. Parts were the fuel pump and a gasket. Very slight fuel smell when we picked up the car but gone after a minute of driving. Car drives the same as before, no change. So, it seems all is ok.....so far!
Ours goes under the knife today! :(
Will report back how it goes and if I notice anything different after its done.
Hope they don't screw something up.
Installed the New Bridgestone Weatherpeak Tires about a month ago! Very happy so far. Much quieter and smoother than the OEM Toyos. Got them for $150 off at Costco. 70,000-mile warrantee. 3 peak mountain snowflake certified so can handle snow and wet weather better than All Season tires...
