Rear takes a bit more work- and rear is where the rolling is really needed when you start cranking up the tire width. The lips on mine measured a good 17-19mm straight in towards the center of the car from the fender lip. 235/45 on 17x7 +55 wheel setup scraped the rear lips like crazy.
But...
More or less, yeah. The 5 is essentially a stretched 3 with sliding doors and an extra row of seats. The majority of the mechanicals are interchangeable.
Doubtful for the amount that the H&R will lower you. I was set lower than the H&R drop, and I needed to lean back out about a full degree before getting back to -1.5 degrees of camber in the rear.
Only thing you can buy in the USA in the same model years with sliding doors and a stick. Shared component with the MZ3 of the same generation makes parts swapping and upgrading easy. The suspension and brake problems that are common to the platform are relatively easy to remedy if you're good...
I put in a new control arm on the passenger side. Pain in the ass since the AC compressor is in the way of the front control arm bolt. You have to remove the rear engine mount and hoist the engine up on the passenger side to clear the bolt past the compressor. The clamp around the post of the...
I ran 225/50-17, but that was at +52 offset, not +40 to +42. You're 10mm to 12mm closer to the fender. Based on my measurements though, you shouldn't have any problems fitting the 225/45-18. 215/45-18 will be a safer fit, but I'd go ahead and run big. :)
I'd honestly roll with the Konis and some H&R springs, then adjust damping to your liking. It'll be stiffer than stock, but then again the stock suspension is a bit floppy. Or you can buy my BC Coilovers. :)
Replaced front lower control arm, took pictures for posting later. Pain in the ass on the passenger side.
Replaced AC clutch, need to get more refrigerant since I bled out too much and it won't start. Still haven't found a clutch coil that fits without splicing wires. But damn those bearings...
225/50-17 will fit for a taller and cushier ride. That's what I'm running now. 235/45 on 17x7 +55 was too wide, rubbed the inner fenders in the front (also at +52 offset) and the outers in the rear (+55 offset). 225/50 and 215/50 clear with no issues at all. FYI, 225/45 would be a proper...
